I've always heard people making jokes about Wagnerian operas, how they are long and overbearing. I'm finding I'm enjoying what I'm listening to today though - but I am listening by song, not entire operas. I didn't know he wrote that bride song!
He did write some amazing stuff, but his operas can be quite long, and are considered among the most difficult works in opera to actually sing. His entire ring cycle is like 16 hours total...it is split up into 4 operas that he originally planned for people to watch back-to-back on 4 consecutive nights. I find that with his operas the music alone isn't sufficient - you really need to have good staging and good actors to keep the audience engaged. One thing that always surprises me about Wagner, is that as a person he was quite hateful/racist. But then, he goes and writes some of the most beautiful music.
Here are some of my favorite moments of Wagner...I still haven't tackled much of his Ring cycle though! (I already posted one previously: the ending of Parsifal):

Ending of Tristan und Isolde (I LOVE King Marke's part in this segment, even more than the oft-proclaimed Liebestod - I find it so touching):

If you really want to see something hilarious, look up some scenes of Siegfried fighting the dragon...this cracks me up for some reason:

This thread has become my favorite on this entire forum, I'm loving it and finding a lot of good music!
