a bootleg. the first part (up to Now I'm Here) surfaced a few years ago. The person in possession of the tapes then finally released the rest of the show. Sadly both were in two MP3 files. They're trying to arrange a professional retransfer in a lossless format. The second part also has some digital glitches here and there sadly. However the band is so inspired and Fred is in such great voice that i can look past it. It contains my favorite rendition of Dragon Attack. The controversy was justified, but that doesn't change the fact that this is an amazing show. Fred usually sounded bad in 1984 and blew out his voice a few days earlier, but somehow managed a near-miraculous recovery after cancelling a few dates there. He hits all the high notes in Seven Seas Of Rhye, nails Hammer To Fall, does a great Bo Rhap with the possibly best second verse in Queen live history. I Want To Break Free is the closest Fred got to the studio rendition live. The entire group veers off into some great improvs here and there too.
The only statements i've heard from the band (from the "Days Of Our Lives" documentary) are:
"Wish i'd never heard of the bloody place" - Roger Taylor
"We got offered a large sum of money and that was it. We weren't trying to support apartheid." - Brian May (paraphrased from memory but i assure you that's what he said)
And Fred apparently was going to refuse to perform if he saw the audience was segregated.
it didn't. why would it?
