Oh boy my comment on this one will be long.

So I had to read a book of choice at school to make an essay about it and I'm used to reading series of 400 to 1000 pages bricks with fantasy or sci fi themes. My eyes stumbled upon this book, "The Mechanical Flower" I read the description on the back and it seemed like a good steampunk story (These don't exist.).

I started reading and was about 100 pages in (30 pages took one hour to read) when the bad writing, poor story choices and cringeworthy moments started to become over the top. For writing a 10 books series of over 600 pages each you'd think the author was a talented writer.

The biggest flaw in my opinions was that throughout most of the story, characters from England (Most of the main characters and bad guys) talked French (It was explicitely written that they spoke French) and there were no mentions of an English language existing. the one French Canadian character could speak with the Londonians no problemo even though 18th Century's French Canadians were illiterates. It was never explained in any of the books I've read so far what happened to the English language so I had to craft an explanation myself: France conquered England and assimilated it. NO. You can't fill your books with plotholes all over the place! That's inconsiderate!

H.P. Lovecraft's The Complete Fiction.

It is really a collection within one tome, but it is huge.

It's not quite Clive Barker-ish, but in the 1930's, it was probably scary.

Just read this today...

Image

Read the whole book - 230 pages - in one day... Luckily, Sikh theology is significantly more accessible and straightforward than the other Indian religions of Hinduism, Buddhism* or Jainism...

*I have 3 Zen Koan collections staring accusingly at me from the shelf, expecting not only to be read... but understood :?.

Now I just have to decide if I should (attempt to) read up on Daoism/Taoism and Shinto. Given that these are folk religions without clear boundaries and doctrines, this might be an arduous task :|.
