My portrait of the most famous Egyptian matriarch after Cleopatra. She was much more successful as a ruler than Cleo, so had memory of her lasted longer Hatsy rather than Cleo would be the most popular Egyptian queen today. Alas, thanks in large part to her successor Thutmose III's efforts to obliterate any mention of her from Egyptian records, it's only been relatively recently that Hatsy has received any public spotlight.

If you look closely, you might notice that I've given Hatsy a few moles on her skin for additional realism.

How big are those heads?!

I have to own up and admit that the camera angle makes the Moai head looks a bit bigger than it really is - only about one metre in height. Perhaps folks expect it to be larger because of the size of the real things on Easter Island.

I'll have another go at posting a picture of my latest green oak frame since my last attempt doesn't seem to have worked too well. Here it is...

It took about five and a half tons of oak to make the structural frame.

wow, this is impressive!!
wonderful wood work!

Thanks - after all the time it took to make it in the workshop, it's pretty satisfying to see it erected and finished...

.. and not falling down! :D

Thanks Brandon. Also I very much like the info you have shared. I have heard of Hatsy and she was definitely a great ruler, what I cannot remember is why Thutmose defaced so many of her images and erased her from records so fiercely.

Thank you. IIRC, Thutmose's issue had something to do with a succession dispute, but the last explanation I recall reading for it was ridiculously convoluted.

Anyway, another Egyptian queen:

Image
The Great Royal Wife of Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep III and the grandmother of the famous Tutankhamun, Queen Tiye was an intelligent and fierce woman who wielded a lot of influence at her husband's court and became his trusted adviser. Foreign rulers were often willing to deal directly with her despite coming from more male-dominated cultures.

I've decided to give my rendition of Tiye an Afro based on a yew bust of her hosted at Berlin's Egyptian Museum. Afros are among my favorite hairstyles on women, but unfortunately searching for recent Afro artwork on DeviantArt turns up too many iterations of that annoying "Circus Afro" meme for my taste.

Ahmose-Nefertari was the sister and Great Wife of Ahmose I, the first Pharaoh of ancient Egypt's New Kingdom. At one point her husband lent to her the responsibility of administering temple property, estates, workshops, and treasures. She was also the mother of Amenhotep I and may have served as his regent when he was still a child. Some have suggested that Ahmose-Nefertari was of Nubian descent since she is often painted jet-black in art from her time period, but this coloration may have just as easily symbolized new life (she would later be revered as a goddess of resurrection).

Hey, don't want to annoy people, but I want someone to draw a picture of a Dwarf beating a Goblin to death with his own leg.

We like to imagine ancient Egypt as a rich civilization, but while agriculture along the Nile did support a large population, the society was characterized by remarkable socioeconomic inequality. Most Egyptians did not live in grand palaces like the Pharaohs, and I wanted to capture that disparity with this scene by juxtaposing the palace against the commoners' mud huts. There's probably a ton of perspective errors in here, but it was nonetheless fun practice for drawing cityscapes.

The sky isn't meant to be dark or smoky; that's simply my failed attempt to render in its blueness.

Someone else will probably do it, but to be honest I'm not into goblins or dwarves.

Only one of my adoptables has been taken so far. Will you adopt one of the rest?

Sekhmetka the Egyptian Special Ops

Now here's an OC (original character) who's more modern than most of my other black warrior woman characters. She may look African-American at first glance, but she's actually Egyptian, or more specifically Kemetic; she hails from an alternate timeline in which various civilizations from our ancient past have survived into the modern era. A rigorously trained warrior, she works as an agent of espionage and other special operations in the Pharaoh's service. Think of her as being modern Kemet's equivalent to a CIA agent.

My OC Sekhmetka, an Egyptian warrior from an alternative timeline in which ancient Egypt never fell, in a more dynamic pose.
