I think that actual music lovers are few and far between. I have met very few in my 70+ years.

Most people like certain types of music and hate other types of music.

For example, some like rock and hate everything else. You cannot legitimately call them music lovers, but you could call them "rock music lovers".

Does anyone here like music or do they just like certain types of music?

I must admit that while my own musical tastes are very broad, I don't enjoy heavy metal and I absolutely detest rap and anything like it.

I confess to being very one eyed when it comes to music.
Thrash-puppy central should make that obvious.

I think it's normal for people to have styles they appreciate more than others, I don't think this means one isn't a 'music lover' just for liking some styles more than others.

Are you only a some music lover because of your disdain for hip-hop?

I somewhat agree on your premise though, a lot of people will say they like everything only to demonstrate they don't like plenty of what everything includes. If one doesn't like free jazz and grindcore and gabber and Mongolian throat singing and (insert all other genres here) they can't honestly claim to like everything.

A few days ago Cyndi Lauper was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Before becoming a solo act she was the lead singer of the band 'Blue Angel'
