They were good. I had a lot of Beatles Albums (the big, 12" things that DJs use...;), and lost them all to the ex-wife (why is it that they take your income, etc., but what really burns you is when they pilfer your albums?...;)

In the 70s (since I missed out on rock'n roll until then) they were cool.
In the 80s they were overplayed, repetitive, and I was more than a bit tired of them
In the 90s they were background music for commercials, muzak, etc.

Now, the really obscure stuff is pretty good (I'll Cry Instead, example), but I got burned out on them over the decades....

I was born in 1964, and I like the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel. I am a big fan of 1960s music.

All you need is Love.

Love em and yet I don't or never have found people in my age range talk about em'. :?

In highschool I used to get made fun of for it and yet knew other kids secretly love em' as well. Never did fit what was suppose to be appropriate for my age range and never will for that matter.

I Am the Walrus is a classic because I find it to be more alternative to alternative music. Very different sound. 8)

Elenor Rigby.....I can identify. :(

Give Peace a Chance (I guess that was more of John's work)....which is what we really need right now!!

Help!! ! speaks for itself.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand Never understood what is so wrong about the innocense of luv rather than songs about just getting it on.

*sigh* ectetera. :)

Anyone seen the Yellow Submarine movie?.....very creative as there's not a lot of speacial effects but real illustrious work involved in it.

So yes Luv the Beatles and thought I was the only one in my teens and early 20s.

I definitely think I was born in the wrong generation when it relates to art and music. I'm just not real into that synthetic sound. Yes I do luv some present day music it but it just doesn't beat the different sounds of some of the late 60's and early 70's. I espeacially luv that original accoustical sound. 8)

More of? You mean since he wrote it and released it as a solo single without any other Beatle involvement??

That's exactly what happened, that song was recorded in a damn hotel room in Amsterdam in '68 or '69, I belive. That song is ENTIRELY John's work, although due to their deal with EMI Paul was a credited co-writer until I think the 90s, maybe earlier.

I also want to say that everytime Im subjected to John Lennon's Pathetic, naive, pro-communist debacle imagine I cringe and wanna puke. That mans hypcracy just disgusts me. His vision of a "better world" will NEVER come true, Because of the spirit of individualism within all of us! :D

I love John Lennon's vocal part after Paul McCartney sings: "Went upstairs and had a smoke and somebody spoke and I went into a dream" 8)

Would you believe that I've been a Beatles fan since age fifteen?

I love the Beatles, but I think I like their earlier fare a bit more than their later material.

I grew up with the Beatles due to my dad having the entire back catalogue. Must admit I never became a fan. I enjoy their songs on the radio or when a DJ plays them, then I sometimes think "Hey, this is great music". But then a few hours later, back home, I feel no desire to play the song again. They are good, but I find it very tough to rate them amongst the best bands ever. Especially because I am very lyrics-focussed, and IMO that is the one side in which the Beatles weren't that brilliant, especially the first years their lyrics were quite pointless really.

I lean more towards music like the Velvet Underground or to lesser extend The Doors when it comes to the sixties. But I do enjoy the Beatles, without being a real fan. What is interesting is that John Lennon's music got very interesting once the Beatles broke up, his solo material is very good.

That's a pretty unfair thing to pick on considering their context.

To me the lyrics will be one of the main differences between good music and great music. The Beatles' lyrics just don't do it to me, bar a few exceptions such as Dear Prudence, The Fool On The Hill, Strawberry Fields Forever, .... But many of their songs are lyrically not really moving me. That doesn't mean it's bad music, but I doubt I'll ever be a real fan of the Beatles. I can enjoy their songs, but it's not really the type of music that gives me an urge to play it over again.

I've always thought that 'She's Leaving Home' and 'Getting Better' are two examples of really stellar lyrics from the Beatles. The former is just a vivid story song with every detail beautifully laid out, the latter is a song about rebellion and domestic abuse that's so far ahead of its time when you think about it.
