Does this qualify as techno? Old school trance I guess... but anyway!

Are you using techno as a blanket term or as the genre of music?
.

Depends on the person I think.

To give a slightly better answer some people posted happy hardcore up toward the beginning of the thread, some posted other things that had a hint of other styles of electronic in their structure, most people on the thread seemed like they've gone with genre.

Feels like it has a flair of psytrance but still likely falls somewhere in the progressive realm.

Good thread. :D Yes, I have loved Techno Music for decades, I love American Dance Music.
As for the definition, I suppose I can go back to 1970's German Kraftwerk, which I totally love.

I love American ELECTRIC FUNK, the Original Electro, and old HIP HOP, when Techno & Hip Hop were united.

I definitely love DETROIT, which was the first to popularize TECHNO as a Dance Club Music from the mid-1980's.
"Detroit Techno" and "Chicago House" had some connection to each other, but are definitely NOT the same thing.

Today's Techno Music came from "DETROIT TECHNO" and the 1st Generation, the Belleville High School Three: 8)
Juan Atkins
Derrick May
Kevin Saunderson

Of the 3 Original Producers, I have only met Juan Atkins and Derrick May.. I remember Derrick May was interesting to talk to and a funny guy.. But I noticed Juan Atkins was pretty quiet and not sociable, maybe he is an Aspie??.. anyway..

DETROIT TECHNO classic songs by "Rhythim Is Rhythim" aka Derrick May.

Listening to his old stuff again after many years, the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer sound comes out very clearly!

(1987) Derrick May ー Strings Of Life :) (his most well known song)
