Sorry to be dreadfully populist, but my fave Joy Division track was "Love Will Tear Us Apart"

My favourite bands/artists off the top of my head, and in no particular order (deep breath):

The Clash
The Smiths
The Jam/Paul Weller
Simple Minds
U2
Depeche Mode
The Chameleons
Frank Zappa
New Order
Pink Floyd
The Comsat Angels
Tears For Fears
Led Zeppelin
David Bowie
Steve Vai
R.E.M.
Kraftwerk
Radiohead
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Seal
Dire Straits
It Bites
Van Halen (with DLR only)
Bjork/Sugarcubes
The Blue Nile
Talk Talk
Talking Heads
The Police

...and some recent stuff I like, just to show I'm not completely an old git :

Coldplay
South
Keane
Elbow
The Cooper Temple Clause
Doves
Delays
The Electric Soft Parade
The Killers
Snow Patrol
Muse
Moby <bit of a guilty secret that one >
The Koreans
The Rapture
Thirteen Senses
Longview
Athlete
Mansun

(is it just me, or do most good newish bands have single word names?)

Wow a long list you've got there- I tend to go through obsessive phases with music- I will listen to all the albums of a particular band for a couple of weeks and then move onto another band for a while.

I have a terrible memory though- so without going and looking at my CD's there are a lot of bands I will forget about.

Yes - it is quite long (matron), but most of those bands have been the results of various different obsessions down through the years..... (and I just noticed I missed "The Police" and "Mansun" off the list )

I've never really heard Hanson before: I just knew they were some 14 year old sub-Busted (if such a thing were possible) band so can't comment on their old stuff..... But the new album is not completely terrible by any means, and even quite good in places (although it gets a bit samey after about the first 4 or 5 songs)..... It still ain't Mansun though....
