Hate them because they're popular?

Don't be silly.

I don't hate Nickelback because they're popular. I hate them because they're utterly generic, their songs all sound the same, and the lead singer sounds like he's passing a kidney stone.

Quote for emphasis
Kidney stone, very nice. Usually I say he sounds like hes chewing on dick, but that works too

I heard their hits on the radio in high school and never found their songs appealing in the least. My sister, brother, other brother, and I cannot stand "Photograph".

urg, i just tried listening to it again. not much better since i last listened to it like three years ago.

This is why I'm no longer sharing my interests and likes on this site, because everyone is just so mean about it. I'm glad my brain doesn't feel the need to insult other people's music interests. I'm not a fan of Nickelback, but I'm not going to upset those who are. :)

I very much doubt the OP is insulted considering he found my initial post making fun of Nickelback amusing. You gotta have a sense of humor. Not everybody likes everything. It shouldn't stop you from talking about what interests you, just get thicker skin

But they don't sound like it, that's the thing. There's a difference between having a similar song structure/style and having songs sound almost exactly the same.

One thing I hate about the hip hop/rap you mentioned is the whole "sampling" fad. The idea of blending random songs together in inane ways really pisses me off. Disk Jockeys are not musicians

I agree..... so does Henry Rollins.

Alright, what's with all the hate, here? They're not that bad; I happen to like Nickelback. They're not my favorite, but they're far better than the generic rap and hip hop that gets passed off as real music these days. At least you can tell the difference between their songs, unlike most pop and both aforementioned genres.

I almost totally agree with you Zokk. :D Nice to read something from someone who also likes Nickelback. I don't get qutie why people can dislike them so much. Even when I was younger and hated Chad Kroeger's voice I could still apprceciate the instrumentals.

As for bands similar to Nickelback, here some I like:

Theory of a Deadman
Black Stone Cherry
Seether
Hinder
Neurosonic
Saving Abel
Papa Roach
Shinedown
Three Doors Down

Thanks for the list!! I've already listened to some Shinedown and liked it, but I'll hear a bit more and see what I think. I've already listened to and like Theory of a Deadman, but agree that they're quite similar to Nickelback. :D
