I have a varied taste in music:

classical, especially baroque as it has a distinctive beat
80s electro-pop - Eurthymics, Human League, ABC, Ultravox, Depeche Mode
modern electro-pop - Muse, Scissor Sisters, Goldfrapp
Motown
soft rock/ power ballads (cheesy, I know)
anything that's suitable for Zumba
I also like John Denver, James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Josh Groban, George Michael, Brian Kennedy and the ladies that sang the blues

I go to see tribute bands quite often - Queen, Abba, BeeGees, T-Rex
and possibly going to see a Led Zeppelin tribute band next week.

I am fond of so many types of music. As you can see from my avatar, and my signature, I love "Son House" a old blues artist, one of the true greats... Most of his music is rather depressing, but for a true blues fan, that's what makes the blues so great at times. Here's a video I'm fond of. There aren't many of him sadly.

Honestly, I love just about all music from Gangsta rap to classic rock. All genres have something I like. Here's a Dubstep video that really gets me happy.

well I certainly don't like peaceful songs lol. I like songs that sound good

Radiohead - Creep is a great song

some of my favourites

Dresden Dolls - Girl Anachronism (song about crazy, its awesome :D)
Fatboy Slim - Bird of Prey
Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist this song is also crazy
Avalanches - Since I Left You another from this band, happy and sad song
Punjabi MC - Jogi Indian song, love the way they do the voices
KT Tunstall - Suddenly I See really happy, uplifting song
The Presets - Yippiyo-ay like second half more than first though
Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture when the cannons go off!
Garbage - Push It

I guess I like anything that sounds good (to me). If I was to pick any band as my favourite it would probably be Garbage though, I like a lot of their songs.

Well I like all types of Metal, and no not metalcore or deathcore because those are not metal and I do not like any of it so I do not want anyone to think that by metal I mean Bring Me The Horizon rather then Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Death, Pentagram, Children Of Bodom ect. Then of course I like Psychedelic Rock(Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Attack, The Black Angels just to name a few) and Hard Rock(Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rainbow ect.) and I listen to some techno like Jesus On Extasy and Reefer Decree and other then that I am open to most other genres which I don't feel like listing......I do not listen to country though a couple of songs are tolerable, I hate most rap but some of it is tolerable, and I do not listen to anything anything that would ever be played on a christain radio station.

Radio Head's Creep reminds me of my teenage years...

Music is very mood based for me

If I'm feeling like energising my batteries
Foo Fighters Everlong or hero
Public enemy - Fight the Power
Crystal method - trip like I do
Cypress Hill - Be a rockstar
Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly

If I feel like relaxing
Massive attack - teardrop
Monica - Angel of mine
Peebo Bryson - Disney songs
Deep Forest - Lullaby

If I feel spiritual
Bjork - Pagan Poetry
Tea Party - Sensation
Todd Rundgren - can we still be friends
Earth Wind and Fire - September
The music of Samurai Champloo (Japanese)
The music of Laputa (Japanese)
The music of Spirited Away - (Japanese)
David Bowie - Ashes to Ashes

I used to think I liked (some of) pretty much every genre except metal. And then I came across this:

And I rather liked it.

As I go through more and more trance pieces, I've come to find that I actually dislike the vast majority of them, but I do like some of them, too. In fact, the ones that I like are much better than the average enjoyment I get from other songs I like. Especially this:

Other songs I like are most things by BNL (EXCEPT FOR "THE NIGHT I FELL ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL"), the songs I heard from Simon & Garfunkel, the songs from Jekyll & Hyde...

Oh, man, THIS:

So... yeah. Pretty much whatever that doesn't have too much percussion (which my oldest sister seems to absolutely LOVE. >.<)

I guess that I like songs that I can use to defend and stand up for my differences with, because I like the fact that I'm different. 8)

@dunbots

I sometimes like stuff like the first few you posted, and what a great time for me to hear it. That last song, though, gave me chills in a good way. I didn't even know music like that existed! Wow, thanks.

My taste is quite varied, though I do have a tendency to get stuck on certain 'sounds', or selections of artists that produce similar music. Some styles of music that I've been heavily into in the past include British Invasion artists, bebop, ragtime and traditional jazz, country blues, and Romantic-era classical music. I guess I'll also mention that I've been a big Dylan fan for years, given that his music doesn't quite fit into any of those categories.

That said, I doubt there's such a thing as a typically Aspergian taste in music. Does anybody know of any studies that suggest otherwise?

I've been wondering about this for many years: What DO all my favorite artists have in common? I have this huge iPod thing with gigabytes of music, and there's got to be some sort of thread connecting it all. I haven't figured it out. If I could, it would be a fascinating insight.

My favorite artists are Genesis, The Police, and Steve Winwood. I like most of the solo stuff Genesis and Police members did. (I'm the only person in the universe who actually likes Andy Summer's XYZ.)

New stuff I like: I like several songs off of the Tears For Fears reunion album and live album. Curt Smith's new solo album has a few good moments. The new Mike and the Mechanics album is fantastic. And I absolutely hated their 90s stuff. The new album is less overproduced, the lyrics aren't as stupid as in the past, and Mike even does some solos. I would actually recommend this album.

There are a few classical pieces I like, such as Mozart's 40th symphony, but most of it annoys me. Baroque music is torture, and Romantic music is too busy. The piano version of Pictures at an Exhibition is good.

For those of you who have executive function issues, you're not alone. I totally blanked out on the Russian composer whose Piano Concerto 2 influenced Tony Banks. When you hear it, it just screams Tony Banks if you are familiar with Banks' compositional style. Google says: RACHMANINOV!

I listen to a wide variety of music, that said, I do have some preferences. I prefer music with a melody, NOT noise, not screaming (vocals or guitar), not crashing or pounding drums, or a heavy bass line. Rap sends me into a tizzy...can't handle the harshness or heaviness. Not sure if it has to do with my high anxiety or PTSD or just super sensitive hearing, but it sets me on edge.

Music genres that I enjoy are Irish music (love the complexities of the reels & jigs, but also the ballads), folk music, country, artsy rock from the 70s (ELO, Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, etc), some classic rock as well like the Eagles, the Beatles, Linda Ronstadt...stuff like that. My tastes have changed from when I was younger. Back then, I could handle more of the screaming stuff. I think it just gets on my nerves now.
