Try some black/death metal, you'll be surprised. Metal will always be heavy.

What I was saying was I like extremely dark/heavy/noisy rock music that isn't necessarily metal.

Stuff I like:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor
City of Caterpillar
Mogwai

I don't care for black/death metal or 95% of stuff that falls strictly under the metal label.

I love metal :) especially older metal, like Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Sabbath and such. I hardly listen to any black/death-metal (I find most screams irritating), however I do enjoy some bands that scream such as Lamb of God, Protest the Hero, and Machine Head. Metal is also super fun to play and sing, as I love technical music.

yeah i got some songs from metallica, enter sandman is my favorite. i don't have any other songs from the other artists but i also have not run across them at random, i won't simply listen to a random song by choice which is why i find most of my music through youtube and synced to parodies, random game videos etc...

my bro talks about a few of those, he's the one that got me into the rock and metal type of music. but yeah alot of metal nowadays you can't understand and that hurts my love of a song, songs tell a story and if i can't understand the words how will know the story.

sorry curse of the artist i get weird talking about art in almost any form.

Yes, I like metal. All sorts, really. Heavy metal, less so but it's still good.

I had problems getting into music because I didn't hear the lyrics properly. Then Britpop happened. I have no idea why I could hear it better, since English isn't my native language anyway so I don't see why the origin of the singer should matter.

Back to metal, you could guess I was pretty much anti, but when I had my epic depression phase after being on Risperidone, I started listening to it because I felt 'slow', and I could take in the density and complexity that would usually overload me. As far as vocalists go though, I only liked few, even if I'd already like the music.

I can honestly say I love metal music, and am proud of this fact, and I don't really care that nobody in my circle of friends and family are not into it. It's by far my favorite genre, and always has been. I'm into a lot of metal bands, covering a range of sub-genres of metal (including heavy metal), even some death and black metal. These days I particularly enjoy melodic death-metal, power metal, operatic metal. However I love some Rock and Alternative music too, I also like Classical music, some pop, a little blues, country, dance, even find a very little rap interesting. What I can't tolerate is Jazz. No offense intended to Jazz lovers! I can respect the technical fortitude and all, but it's just the jazz I've heard so far I simply dislike. It's really odd but jazz makes me feel ill, it gives me a migraine and something akin to motion sickness. Its the kind of noise I hear in my head when I am suffering or in a really awful place. I don't understand why people like it, but I accept that they like it for reasons unknown to me. I wish the metal haters would stop criticizing and preaching to me about my taste in music. I love the melodies and technical beauty and intense driving rhythm of metal, the sincere emotionality of it, the lyrics can be complex, deep and meaningful to me and much metal I am into is derived from classical music, that which fills me with a certain spirituality that takes me to a higher realm or existence. I think one's taste in music is not related to whether they are NT or an Aspie. Just as one's taste for certain art, foods or colors is not related to being an Aspie or NT. \m/ \m/

Wow I guess Aspies must like heavy metal?

Personally I can't stand it. More because I hate screaming than anything else. The instruments themselves are kind of cool. The only metal bands I like are System of a Down, Rage Against the Machine (if that counts) and Linkin Park.

Different strokes for different folks, as i always say. Shame you've gone and stereotyped it again, most metal bands do not "scream", unless you count the black metal and death metal bands. Broaden your horizons, you'll be surprised, and Linkin Park AREN'T metal.
