Little James - LOL, that reminds me of a review I once read. It mentioned the line 'you swam the oceans like a child' and said something like - What? Flapped around a bit, and then asked for ice cream?, something to that effect. I could actually remember ALL the reviews, if I go on. xD

Honestly, it is an unexplainable sonic texture that grasps my interests. I can't explain myself really, xD. (But I can tell you that just about all of the music on the radio annoys the hell out of me) I guess if the music is capable of giving me shivers, it is good music to my ears. My favorite bands are Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Modest Mouse, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, Type O Negative, Days of the New, and The Melvins.

Overall it has to be upbeat, both lyrically and melodically. A catchy tune is nice but not strictly necessary

Emotional impact

Same.

Anything that gives me mad chills or brings tears to my eyes is an epic success in my books.

Depending on my mood I crave emotional intensity in music. I don't understand how some people are put off by it. I like GYBE a lot but can't find many other bands that have that same kind of charged dark mood. Other so-called "post-rock" bands I know of are more euphoric/blissful don't have the that beautiful eeriness that I like.

I like Modest Mouse a lot. Isaac Brock comes up with all kinds of clever sounding nonsense in his lyrics but it always seems to fit anyways. I like the pre-'Good News' albums best musically. I don't like how there's hardly any new rock music these days that's both interesting and raw/rocking. 90s indie-rock is superior to most of the mellow/mopey/light stuff of the 00s.

That is very true, Isaac does have some "out there" lyrics haha. My favorite album by Modest Mouse is The Lonesome Crowded West. I could listen to it all day; it's like complete brilliance to my ears. :o. But yes, 90s indie/alt. rock is well above the standards of today's music. Honestly, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that I almost exclusively listen to music from the 90's... It's just so different.

To me the most important thing in music is the ability to evoke emotion. Any emotion really, there's quite a big range lol. Of course that's a very personal criteria as a song that I may find extremely happy and uplifting may bore someone else to tears lol.

The line doesn't make sense however often you think about it. It is actually amusing because it sounds like one of those standard lines in pop music that convey no meaning.

The 90s were a great decade fo music. Even the boy groups and girl groups were superior to what you hear these days.

My favourite line to pretend I don't get is 'Open the door and let out the cold' from The Puppet, by Echo & The Bunnymen. I mean, it's one of their simplest early lyrics, in a time period all their lyrics were written obscure on purpose. But still - not how temperature works.
