IMHO mary-ann was the most sexylicious while Karen was the most sonorous.

With much speculation at the time as to whether they were the Beatles in disguise, pseuydomously reuniting !

e still thought of as the epitome of conventional pop- they did a cover version of the song "Attention all Inhabitants of Interplanetary Craft" - originally by the band Klaatu (the epitome of late sixties deep psychedelia).

It wasn't exactly a "hit" for the Carpenters, but the ten minute long friendly musical greeting to the alien crews of UFOs is an interesting tidbit for collectors of oddball music (like me). And their version of the song is the official anthem of some UFO group (forget the name of the organization).

I knew about the rumor that the Canadian band named after the space alien in "The Day The Earth Stood Still" was really the Beatles in disguise.

Didn't know that both their version, and the Carpenters' cover of "Calling All Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" charted rather high until I Wikied it just now. Was alive back then, but I don't remember ever hearing it on the radio back then.

In fact the Carpenters' version reached in number one in Ireland!

Not a huge fan of their music, but I did appreciate their musicianship--especially Karen's voice.

a voice like Karen's comes along only once per generation. before her it was Patsy Cline. I think it has skipped a generation as there is nobody today who sings like Karen. KD Lang can come close, though, with the right material.

Between Karen's death, and today's singers, there was someone who is still virtually unknown in the US, but famous in Europe and the UK---Eva Cassidy.

And like Karen, she died way before her time.

Do a YouTube search for her music, and the ABC News Nightline thing they did on her life.

An amazing voice. Eva Cassidy came from here in the DC area, but her records got discovered by a deejay in Britain. So here fame spread to the US from Europe even though she was from Bowie Maryland just around the Beltway from me.

Her doctors thought that they got all of the melanoma on her first surgery, and recommended against chemo. They didn't, and it spread to her bones. :(

Karen had one of the greatest voices I've ever heard. It was a real tragedy that this wonderful woman had such a low self esteem that she literally starved herself to death. Rainy days and Mondays and We've only just begun some of my all time favourites. I remember crying when i heard of her death. Music was a big help fighting loneliness when i was young.
