This stuff is delightfully bonkers. If I manage to start absorbing Korean from it that would be great. I've been a music nerd from birth and Seoul is somewhere I really should learn about, considering what I do for a living. If I can tag along to a rave my friend's helping with there it's a done deal.
Case in point, there I was in a grocery store the other day psyched out of my mind over kimchi in the veggie fridge... My mom didn't exactly get it...

It's fun to pick worldwide clichés out of languages I've barely heard before...

If you have Korean lyrics that you have to know but cannot find English version anywhere online, leave a message here. I'll translate them in this thread whenever time allows me to do. maybe..I cannot trust what I said though..

I go for the vicious spicy kimchi btw, it's really difficult to find and I'd probably get an earful for attempting to make my own so I should just get a jar if I end up at that store soon. My mom's kitchen over here is full of pickled beets so I'm gonna need something more my speed - chili paste & all other such things are great for knocking the allergies sideways out of my head, so I can get back to my music addiction...

Yeah, there are a lot of K-pop songs that seem to have the theme "Look at us! We're cute!" with bright colours and some upbeat music thrown in. There are also some really good songs out there, too. This one was my favourite song from last year – from any genre:

^ She's got a really great voice, and it's nice to see a young kid singing traditional music. I think I heard her once singing Arirang. Personally, I think she'd make a good blues singer, too.

^ IDK about blues..I only know that I've never heard this kind of voice before. Here's Arirang. Every region in Korea has its own Arirang. In this clip you can taste three different Arirangs.

I love listening to folk music from different countries ... almost as much as I like eating food from different countries.
I'm not generally a fan of bubblegum pop music, so I'm not into a lot of the girl groups in K-pop. Girls Generation seems to be popular among international fans, though. The first song below is upbeat and colourful, and the second one is probably my favourite song from that group:
