Why do artists write depressing music? Usually it's to express what they feel, real human emotions. People who are already depressed may find some release in listening to music that expresses their feelings.

Unhappy artists write unhappy music. Example, Shostakovich's rarely performed second violin concerto:


If you aren't depressed then it's sure to bore you or even seem really annoying.
