Ah so many bands my bro always shows me... Not been bothered to to check out Dream theatre yet, but Rhapsody of fire are amazing... I'd also recomend Children of bodom and Dragonforce(I'm aware that they get negative feedback). A lot of melo-death, thrash, prog, viking(I personally don't like it) and power metal bands are really talented.

Listening to "Wings for Marie" right now I cannot help wondering if there is any metal vocalist that even comes close to Maynard James Keenan. The man has a voice you recognise out of a thousand, is one of the most charismatic stage personalities (and very colourful personality off stage as well) and he is a great lyricist as well.

Metallica- Old stuff is the best but they have some good new stuff
Killswitch Engage- Both Howard and Jesse are amazing singers, both had a good mix of melodic and screaming. Howards voice is more soulful though.
Shadows Fall- There good but im not to impress with there new album. Its there first album on a major label company. Sometimes it is quite the shame when a band drops their independant label.

I can't believe I'm gonna have to be the first here to mention Nile, the greatest death metal band of all time!
They are my second favorite band, KoRn is always number one with me. After Nile is Nevermore, then Behemoth, then probably Slayer and Motorhead and there is no real order after that.
So my tastes are kinda scattered but its all metal.

I must say Cradle of Filth have some nice work on albums (especially "from the cradle to enslave" has a great energy and very catchy tune - sick video though) but live they are very bad. I saw them live only once and they played so chaotic and loud that it was hard to recognise what songs they were playing. Dani's vocals and screams did not work out al all neither. Cradle of Filth IMO is a studio band: their albums sound good but I would not pay again to see them live.

Ohhh yeah Cradle, I listened to them when I was 14 :P I have a live cd I remember how bad they sounded so yeah I can definetly agree with that. The album also included one of their demos, which is the only good material Ive heard from them other than The Principle of Evil Made Flesh. I also have Lovecraft and Witch hearts or whatever, I remember liking it but I sort of grew out of it eventually. Didnt really correspond with my emotions anymore I guess and his vocals were starting to irritate me. They definetly have some beautiful synth work though put into it, I remember that very well.
Nowadays the closest thing Ill listen to thats not underground is Bathory, other than that Ill only listen to underground black or death metal or ambient even. Oh I got an idea, think we can make an album trading thread? Like we can trade eachother our records through the mail, or trade with cash, either way. I dunno I think its a good idea :)

My wishlist would be rediculously long but if you have any underground stuff contact me. Heres all my offers:

From The Cradle To Enslave has a lot of energy and is very powerful in all its meanings.

However, the video is rather "extreme":
- people cutting their wrists above a bathtub with violin sticks
- a woman showing her clitoris piercing to a midget
- a woman being stabbed in the breast

Needless to say that the video was censored on most TV stations. Guess it is understandable as that gross does not really seem to fit the song.

I also like "Her Ghost In The Fog" and "Nymphetamine". Liv Christine does guest vocals on Nymphetamine and she's got a very nice voice, a nice contrast to Dani Filth himself :)

Oh, hell yeah. The "Nymphetamine" video is just...beautiful in my opinion. That song was what got me into Filth in the first place, and is one of my top 5 favorite songs ever. XD I love that element of contrast. And yeah, "From the Cradle to Enslave" and "Her Ghost in the Fog" are both excellent songs.

It's odd...I think my favorite album by them is "Damnation And A Day," but it has the least amount of standout songs for me...I just like the way it comes together, and the overall feel/sound of it, with the heavier classical elements. Not a big fan of "Thornography."

Thanks for the heads up about them live, by the way...I was considering seeing them live, but I shan't now.

You mean the kind who started listening to them since they were around 13 when The Principle Of Evil Made Flesh was more popular than their latest crap? Yeah that would sort of be me heh, only I basically grew out of them though. Even the Icelandic bm scene has more to offer than the uk bm scene. Over all Id say the French scene is the most interesting.

I don't like CoF anymore due to their latest album, but I still listen to their old music. Graveworm has filled the gap left by Cradle of Filth for me.
Anyway, I never heard of a good French band, most of my favorite bands are from the US (KoRn, Nile, Nevermore, Slayer, Devildriver, Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Pantera, Mushroomhead, Static-X, Deicide, other stuff)

8O Dude, Deathspell Omega. Both the new and old material is f*****g great. But just for kicks, try some of the LLN projects :P http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Legions_Noires Now hows that for interesting? Heh..
But Ill agree that the US has some sick death metal bands, like Nile, CC, and Exhumed. Also try some old Mortician, and the album Chainsaw Dismemberment  And if you like Exhumed then you will really like Impaled and Disgorge, check them out if you havent already.
Also for "filling the CoF gap", Id say Dimmu Borgir does a bit of a better job than even Graveworm. imo (or maybe even Aborym)
