If most people get you mssage wrong you're probably not doing a very good job at getting it across, and sarcastic_name was a lucky happenstance of understanding. Either translate, dumb it down, or stop being so offended by every little thing which is either not specifically pro-metla or not adhering to your own stipulative definitions (and I emphasize the word stipulative!).

I just don't think of Pop as an abbreviation for popular, which it looks like most of you are doing.

pop to me is the name i use for pseudo-genre bands who destroy the genre they claim to be.
ie: slipknot, greenday, my chemical romance, fall out boy.

Greenday I classify as "pop-punk" but I still like them. So shoot me. They're very listenable; I don't care if they miscalssify themselves according to whoever.

Well, Green Day and Fall Out Boy I can take or leave. And Slipknot I hated until the 3rd album...

But how can anyone who's heard MCR dislike them? sheesh

((mind you I generally hate straight-up punk, but still))

My Chemical Romance is alternative pop rock, which i tend to not like. people tend to confuse them with emo.

Yeah, I didn't say they were punk did I?
I don't understand why fans of a genre need their bands to stay within such rigid boundaries or else they're suddenly up-in-arms about it... Experimentation is what keeps music from getting stale. And if a band goes in a direction I don't like, I stop listening and/or don't buy the CD. Simple, no?

MCR has the worst singer I've yet to hear. I would say they're pop; having some understanding of what most of you consider pop to be.

Pop is short for popular meaning that any artist that makes it big regardless of what so of music is pop. So you could call Slipknot a pop band because they've made it big.

If you're talking about bubblegum pop, it's usually anything that has nothing more to offer than singing with no depth , originality or anything interesting in the content of the music. Like manufactured artists from shows like American Idol.

Anyone who cares whether an artist is popular or not when it comes to deciding whether they like certain music or not is an idiot. Make up your own minds, don't let the commercials tell you what you like.

And don't ever diss someone because of their taste in music. Just because someone likes something you can't stand, doesn't mean they're any dumber/smarter than you. Everyone's different and if you don't like something, don't listen to it.

i think you seemed to have missed the point. pop doesnt just mean popular anymore. like i said, it means a pseudo-version of a genre. or to put it in better words... the washing down of a genre and to change it in a sort of was so that it fits in with the more popular music. ie: poprock, pop-punk, nu-metal.
