This forum got me drawing again. I'm currently working on a detailed one ('cause I love getting bogged down in details :)), and decided to post it step-by-step as I progress.

For an idea of scale, the drawing is (so far) about 5cm across.

hey man, it's looking good! :D

I don't see pencil lines, you don't sketch below it first?

The drawing's done using one pencil. It's a mechanical one (B), and I use it to draw the outlines and also shade with it.

Using a mechanical pencil saves me from having to sharpen continually.

I don't know what to paint next. I am between doing something in acrylics, gouache or india ink. TBH I don't like acrylics, but I hated the smell of oils on my first try. Maybe I'll try gouache used as watercolor.
¡I forgot!
I was doing good with oils but the painting suffered an accident so I never finished it! It was not the smell!
=D yay
So oils will be, and now that I have some money I can finally buy some oil tubes =D

Gouache seems like the least hassle, but oils produce the nicest finish. I don't like using acrylics. Oils are extremely smelly, as well as messy; regular use would really require an art studio.

Yep.
I totally love oils. The colours are so beautiful intense and vivid. They smell, yeah, quite strong, it's the linseed mostly, but I take that for granted. No other medium, imo, can top it.

CL, suit yourself of course but buy maybe five/ six basic colours and start mixing others with them yourself. Only the mixing and making of my own colours I find totally fascinating. And yep again, be careful though 'cos they ruin your clothes.

Um, basic colours in oil.... Maybe like Phtaloblue, cadmiumred, cadmiumyellow, a black and zincwhite and a whole spectrum of colours can be made with those.

Btw, Outlier, I hope you'll continue making art because you are really talented.

Seconded, I love the way they shine :D
I also love that you can leave oils in the open without fearing they'll dry by next day.

A studio? I use a small table  In fact I went to a "wood shop" and bought a piece of plain wood, it's big and cost like 10 bucks, I sanded it and applied varnish and saved $ A LOT, very handy and mobile.

@erminea: damn linseed smell :? I'll check what colors I have and buy the ones you comment, thx (:

This thread has inspired me to draw. I don't have a scanner though, but I think my digital camera will be enough.

Although I have a scanner, I use my camera as well. Why? Too lazy to install the thing, I guess.

Never mind.

Another bird drawing.... I also use it as an avatar on two other (forum) sites.

^ Nice drawing. What did you use?

I've another 2 steps of the one I'm working on. The photos didn't come out very clear, so I sharpened them a bit. The drawing's about 13cm high so far.
