It isn't a huge amount, but it is my second job and does provide a paycheck. I agree with releasing sub-production quality recordings in general, and in my niche it is the sheet music that is more helpful than anything else. But I'm still not familiar with any website on which to make my music available for the general public to hear without hosting my own site which I'm not keen on doing at this time. Are there any options for doing so?

I had stuff on mp3.com, they moved everyone to LastFM where I moved some of my stuff as well. LastFM is an option, although its a little embarassing to put sub-quality on there, part of why I went with Soundcloud - many dj sets, many small artists, and it seems more like a sharing community than anything that's meant to be specifically 'big'. Soundclick is another option.

As far as sites sheisting people though - again - I'm still not really in the loop on who you'd need to stay away from. At worst you can Sendspace, MegaUpload, or USendit although for most of these its only sharing on a temporary basis.

I make various dance music, electronic music is my passion. I rarely share my music with others, but I figure I probably should force myself a bit. So here goes.

This i a project I just completed, and it's currently entered into a sound design contest. I made all of the sounds from a single, horrendously low quality, monophonic synthesizer. Every single patch was crafted by me from the ground up, no presets. And absolutely no samples. No FX allowed except delay/reverb/EQ. So I kinda feel like I pulled a MacGyver with this track, heh. I'm rather proud of it. The contest voting ends in 5 days, so I look forward to that.
Downtempo/ambient/triphop/dubstep/bigbeat. Not sure how to describe it stylistically, you be the judge. It's long, but it goes through a few different phases.

*EDIT - This song won the competition. Yay!

This is a house tune I worked on for a while, and it's nice, but it's very very extremely unfinished, with lots of bits and pieces in there that really shouldn't be there anymore. But since I'll probably never finish it, I may as well post it hehe! It's all my music, the vocalist is some lady from the UK I talked to briefly on the internet. I *think* her name was Jennifer, lol.

This was my first fully completed remix -
http://www.mediafire.com/?mzxtl3jdnnw
I'm not so hot on it anymore though - it's too dang long! Prog trance.

Really, I have a gabillion good projects, but my problem is that I rarely finish them. *sigh*
I get stylistically sidetracked and confused, generally - cant figure out where I want a song to go. But I'm getting better, and I've only been at this for about 3 years. So I feel I've made good progress.

One of the little things I do that's frankly kind of silly, but a lot of fun, is I like taking those 80's tunes I remember in elementary and middle school, EQing em right, and putting my own bangin drums & bass beneath them. Just enough to pull what's already a killer song into a modern club-friendly context. Artists like The System, Sade, Information Society, hehe. They're cute, kinda chunky, but totally unoriginal so I never tend to finish them. I should at some point though. It's good to finish things. =op

So that's me.

Hey, techstepgener8tion, you wanna pop into this thread and talk about your productions a bit? Looks like you've been at it for a while, I'd love to find out more about how you go about music.
Or anyone else in this thread, for that matter.

I've recorded a load of stuff - my main problem is that I enjoy the vast majority of all music, so it's much more difficult to create something I don't like than something I do. That's a problem because it leaves me with very little sense of self-criticism. I enjoy almost everything I create. I assume that most people won't, though, because most people have higher standards with music than I do.

Anyway, if anyone's interested, here's the first album-length bunch of material I put out. It's got the most positive responses of my stuff so far - http://www.mediafire.com/?12b2fmjxwny

Here's a cover of a Jandek album. I absolutely adore Jandek, so I covered one of his most accessible albums, Blue Corpse, from beginning to end - http://www.mediafire.com/?zmmqm2ywmjt

Thanks to anyone who gives those a listen.

Just uploaded my first track, called, "...and the Sun Wept Blue".

http://mercury.nightonthesun.com/music/

It's all done electronically, whith nothing but a mixer, Propellerhead Reason, Sonar 8.5 producer, and a casio keyboard for MIDI input. I'm working on another one, but I'm a little slow since I'm still figuring out the technology.

it was 34 megs to download and you should convert it ti an mp3 format.
it was distorted and i also thought it did not really go anywhere.

here is my contribution for tonight
it is raw and starts crudely and is only meant as a backing track

Both of you! Mp3 those suckers! =op

b9, that was great!
I have a minor critique: Most of the piano riffs were chord stabs (or whatever you'd more appropriately call 'em), I didn't notice many leading solo notes running between. I think it could sound even better with a little bit of dancing around without a chord. But then, I'm no pianist, so this is just a vague notion.

Btw, if you folks are into home based production, stop off into my thread here and tell us what your music life is like!

It's almost 70 mb. So if it's mp3'd, you've somehow managed to skirt the purpose.

I don't know what 'skirt the purpose' means.

The first is uploaded in 192kbps MP3 format. The second is (I think) 256kbps MP3 format.
