Star Gazer

The Star Gazer is from the family of lilies. I Love the stunning bright pink inside that fades into white and the thick filaments in the middle. Because of this I wanted to give it a thicker, more robust look, rather than a still-life. Although most of my flowers do have a robust look to it. Lilies themselves have been associated with purity through history. Ancient Greeks, for example, believed that lilies grew from Hera’s milk. This probably referred to the Madonna Lilies, though, which are white.
The Star Gazer lily is a younger hybrid from 1978 and it was first developed by Leslie Woodruff.

Round Cactus

I do not know a great deal about cacti, but I know that this type of round cactus is part of the Echinocactus genus of cacti. I love the roundness of this type of cacti and the thin white needles are like rich jewels. If anyone knows more about this genus of cacti and wishes to share, by all means do such!

Palmae is one of the scientific name for a type of palm tree. I grew up in the tropics thus this plant is very close to my childhood. Coconuts can be used for a great deal of things from dishes to eat out of to meals and desserts. Coconut water is also very delicious and refreshing. There are over two thousand species of this type of palm tree, isn’t that an amazing number? Palms regardless of the genus only grow in two ways, single or in clusters. The one in this picture grows single.

^ I love the leaves of palm trees, especially coconut bearing ones. They are rich and vibrant.

Unseelie Prince

This is the portrait of an Unseelie Prince. I like fairy folklore and I know there is a great deal of fey fiction. However since I chose to add a bit of information with my pieces, especially the plant-life pieces, I do not think I should miss an opportunity to educate and thus will only share folk and mythology, about the tuatha de danaan, rather than talk about fictional information (in the literary sense, as in novels and such).

Their name means children of danu and Danu is an old Goddess Figure. Members of the Tuatha De Danaan Include: The Dagda, his daughter Bridgit among other famous deities.

The Unseelie like the Seelie belonged to the Daoine Sidhe. These mythological ideas are Celtic, and the arrival of the Sidhe came after the defeat of the Fomorians, according to myth. I hesitate to say more, because my knowledge is not deep seeded scholarly speaking, in their differences and divisions. But I can say this according to myth the Sidhe defeated the fomorians and took residence in the Celtic lands until they were defeated by the Milesians and retreated to underground fairy hills.
If you are interested in learning more about Sidhe mythology make SURE you find scholarly resources.

The Blue-fronted Amazon Parrot is mainly green and about 38 cm (15 in) long. They have blue feathers on the forehead above the beak and yellow on the face and crown. A great distinction of this parrot I that, unlike a lot of parrots of the, Amazon its beak is mostly black. Distribution of blue and yellow varies.

Wow I feel like I have sort of taken over this thread. If any of you ever get annoyed by me posting, let me know! ^^;

Here is my new piece.

Swamp Rose Mallow

This is a Swam Rose Mallow flower. Its scientific name is Hibiscus Moscheutos. I chose to do this piece, honestly, because I loved the name Swamp Rose. These flowers grow in wetlands and need to be continuously moist to flourish. These flowers can grow up to eight inches wide!

Bird Of Paradise flowers resemble a bird in flight (I do not see it, but I do LOVE the shape of the leaves and petals). This flower is also known as a crane flower. The bird of paradise flower is native to South Africa and it blooms between September and May. This flower is from the Strelitzia genus.

Bald Eagles are a U.S National Symbol and has been thus since 1782. They are in fact NOT bald, but called thus because the white feathers on their head is a strong contrast to their brown feathered body. This bird has similarities to another species called Turkey Vultures, but bald eagles are still larger than these. They are carnivorous and can weigh between 6 and 14 pounds! Their life span averages 28 years.

I drew a lot when I was a teenager. I was 20 when I did this. This is the ending of a comic I wanted to draw, with the good characters happy and the evil characters unhappy.
