This artwork was made in response to the "Moral and National Education", a compulsory curriculum planned to be introduced in elementary and secondary schools in Hong Kong. Officially aimed to “strengthen national identity and pride among students”, its teaching materials contain praise on the Chinese Communist Party, simplistic critics on democratic systems and text outlining specific racial features as national identity. In a particular outrageous chapter, pupils are instructed to feel “passionate and joyous” when singing national anthem.

Even with overwhelming protest, the Hong Kong government insisted on keeping it, deciding that to indoctrinate narrow nationalism in an international metropolis is a good idea. After all, why submit to those hunger strikers who are controlled by the Western powers? Such is the politics of Hong Kong, where North Korea or Nazi Germany is the way to go

her left forearm is significantly thicker than her right forearm.
her lips are grotesque and she looks to me like she is in the process of an anaphylactic shock or otherwise she has been in an apiary with a full body suit and head mesh helmet that did not protect her mouth.

the thumbnail on her right thumb indicates that she chews her nails because it is not possible to trim nails to that length with a cutting device without drawing blood.

if she chews her nails, then she may not be as confident as she looks in the drawing, and so the expression on her face in the drawing may be actually be an expression of pain.

otherwise, the drawing is reasonably good in my opinion. i can not draw anything other than donald duck.

Damocle's Sword

The tale of the Sword of Damocles has always been fascinating to me. It is normally used as a parable to describe the perils of ruling and positions of power.

Damocles was, according to the tale, a courtier in the palace of Dionysius the second. He always flattered the king in hopes to one day gain a position of greater power at court. Tired of his constant desire for power, Dionysius asked Damocles if he would like to trade places for a day to see what it would be like to rule. For that entire day Damocles enjoyed himself, until he realized he had a sword hanging by a thread over his head and never knowing when it may snap and end his life.

In a panic he asked Dionysius what was the meaning of this heavy sword. Dionysius proceed to tell him that, though being in the position of king may seem privileged, it came with a large dose of peril.
