That would be interesting. I know Saul was his father; was Solomon his son?

Solomon was his son, Saul was the king and David's best friend's father - long convoluted story - you should read it, very interesting and poetic. OR wait and see the opera. :D I really am surprised there is no opera based on him. There are so many aspects of his life that are operatic, which one do you even pick? You could leave out the Bathsheba years and Goliath and still have plenty of material.

Edit - Saul did become his father-in-law, maybe that's what you were thinking.

I guess I'll have to bone up on my Bible!

I'd like to see your opera when it's finished.

This is interesting. THe youtube comments say there's a whole set you can buy of him talking about a lot of composers. I might have to get that. Or see if I can find them all on youtube. He speaks with charisma too. I like how he swings down and attacks the piano all of a sudden.

I listened to half of this today. I think translating it into English was something of a mistake!

But the guy who played David, I'm pretty sure he was an (what was that term for the guys with the high voices? Alto-Soprano)?

I'm going to try to listen to it in it's original language, which I'm guessing was German. Maybe I'm just not used to the idea of operas in English, I know someone posted one earlier. I meant to listen to it, then forgot where it is. This is problematic since I write in English! Maybe I can write the libretto and get someone to translate for me to keep myself from hating my own opera!

Lol, the original language WAS English. Many of Handel's later works are, because he moved to England.

That is funny~ I don't know why, but I found it disconcerting. Maybe just an idea in my head that it's not supposed to be that way! I also couldn't quite figure out what was going on with the cast. It seemed like they either found really small adults or put some of them on stilts to make some of the others look like kids.

So much banging and clanging! How about a softer approach?

Actually, I have liked Totentanz for a while. I use it as a "shock piece" for people unfamiliar with classical.

Hard to believe those are even from the same brain!

Totentanz not for everyday play, but has a certain energetic quality that fits certain moods, which I guess when you think about it explains how the same guy could have written both.

You....just...totally made my night! That is the best new piece I've been exposed to in a while, thank you for sharing! From Schumann too, a weak point in my collection. I guess I'll post another "Langsam"...

I liked it a lot too.

(Can you tell I'm avoiding work tonight?)
