I kind of have to agree. In retrospect, I do not exactly approach art in this manner. I more so sit down to draw and as I draw things the picture takes shape. The most I do in terms of planning is imagining a concept. Such as a Dryad of a Fairy and just go with that basic idea and develop it as I work. I am not sure how using a model of this scope would actually work. Since it looks more like a template for an RPG (like D&D) than for drawing.

^ I'm the same here, though sometimes, for more complicated scenes, I draw a thumbnail sketch on a smaller piece of paper to help with the larger drawing's composition.

This scholarly character, who's lugging around a codex with papyrus pages, works as a librarian for some learning institution similar to the Egyptian Per Ankhs or Timbuktu's Sankore University. I don't have any plans for her yet, but I had a blast when designing her look. It's supposed to combine elements of different African societies from all over the continent; for example, her headdress draws from both ancient Egyptian crowns and West African women's head-wraps. People like to stress that Africa is a vast continent rather than one monolithic country, but somehow there's a certain appeal to the idea that all the different African civilizations are distantly related in some way.

I have done the same. I am currently really frustrated. Got a new set for sketching that is totally awesome and got a really good picture done (a re-work of my Fire Fairy) but I changed from my iPhone (where I had a nice, free scanner app) to an android phone and I can't seem to find a non-pdf app that works the way I need it to. >< I am REALLY frustrated. New Phone, new stuff, new routine. I need to draw something!

Fire Fairy V2

I love how this piece came out, but the scan was actually rather sh***y, for lack of a better word. Changed phones and my new app leaves a few things to be desired still. I know its really dark and hopefully I can scan it a bit more clearly later. I tried fixing it with Gimp, but to disastrous results.

But off to the good part. I love using the new pencils I got. The chalk and graphite combination is amazing in the sepia and red shades.

This is my favourite image on this thread so far. But I only looked at maybe 20 pages so far.

Are they magic eye things? I twisted my eyeballs into a knot trying to see the blue one, and it sort of looks like a bull, but I don't seem to be as good at is as I used to be. Haven't done it for a while.

How do you do it?

MUST post something of mine soon. I am more traditional.

^ Thats nice, (dont know who did it) but it hurts me to look at it a bit. I think it has too much for me (darn sensory issues) but the borders are soothing.

Sprite of the Earth

It started as a reworking of my Fire fairy, because wanted her to be more define and elemental looking. But when I was finished I did not feel her akin to fire at all. More of an earth spirit, an ethereal sprite based off rich soil and energy.

I felt like sketching a scene out of the novel I'm writing. I didn't finish it.

I second the cute comment.

Omnivorous Ornithomimus

I grew up reading that ornithomimosaurs (the so-called "ostrich dinosaurs") were omnivores, meaning they ate both plants and meat, yet I can't recall ever seeing them eat meat in any paleo art I've seen. Eggs, yes, but not the flesh of mature animals. That's all the odder since you would think these speedy theropods would be perfectly adapted for running down smaller animals whenever they wanted a protein fix. To remedy this, and to get back into a dinosaur-drawing phase, here's an Ornithomimus munching on a generic smaller creature it has caught.

Dinosaurs are probably most fun to draw when you're in a speculative mood.

Diplomatic Disagreement

Civilizations will clash once the proud Pharaoh gets done with this pompous Legate. I hope to write a dialogue between these characters as an exercise in my Creative Writing class soon.

This isn't supposed to represent Antony and Cleopatra or any other historical pairing, but is instead a purely fictional encounter.

Green

I thought the varying shades were astounding. I love leaves. I took it at night, so thats why its not light-shaded.

Formal Punk

Punk Elf in a Cocktail Party Dress.

I hate drawing bodies. But I have been trying anyways. My reward, if i draw the body first, I can finish the head! This is the one I liked the most of my various attempts thus far. My plans? My next piece is going to be a full head-shot in an abstract style. I can't wait to get started on it, just have loads of homework to work through atm. I got a new sketch set and I am not sure what kind of pencils they are but they are labeled chalk, charcoal and Negro. The detailing was done with a black rolle pen.
