Going off to college at 18 and never living at home again. That's this song to me.

I lived in Mpls for about ten years so I'm familiar with Lyndale and Garfield Avenues making this song more meaningful to me.

I lived in the same building with people like this back in my day.

"Acid casualty in a repossessed car, Vietnam Vet playin' air guitar..."

One of my favorite lines in a movie comes from Bob Dylan playing a character called Alias in the movie Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid:

Alias: "I could live anywhere. I could leave anywhere too."

I can relate.

I have a very vivid happy memory of this song:

1990. I was driving with my 1987 Chevy Nova hatchback (like a Toyota Tercel) in the summertime. I had a tiny portable cassette player that I taped to the dashboard. My girlfriend at the time was riding in the passenger seat. We had the windows down and stopped at a stoplight in town. I played this song from this album and she'd never heard it before. At the next stoplight she leaned over and for no obvious reason, threw her arms around my neck and kissed me.

Skip to 3:22 if you want to hear a hauntingly beautiful singer. Sends chills. Natacha Atlas is her name.

A Woody Guthrie cover. I'm a sucker for slide guitar!

"If I ventured in the slipstream
Between the viaducts of your dream
Where immobile steel rims crack
And the ditch in the back roads stop
Could you find me?
Would you kiss-a my eyes?
To lay me down
In silence easy
To be born again
To be born again"

"Ain't nuthin' but a stranger in this world. I'm nuthin' but a stranger in this world."

Still leaves me speechless. Lyrical masterpiece of imagery.

 Not to be confused with "I'll Follow You into the Park", which is what my nephew once called it.
