1990. I was driving with my 1987 Chevy Nova hatchback (like a Toyota Tercel) in the summertime. I had a tiny portable cassette player that I taped to the dashboard. My girlfriend at the time was riding in the passenger seat. We had the windows down and stopped at a stoplight in town. I played this song from this album and she'd never heard it before. At the next stoplight she leaned over and for no obvious reason, threw her arms around my neck and kissed me.
"If I ventured in the slipstream Between the viaducts of your dream Where immobile steel rims crack And the ditch in the back roads stop Could you find me? Would you kiss-a my eyes? To lay me down In silence easy To be born again To be born again"
"Ain't nuthin' but a stranger in this world. I'm nuthin' but a stranger in this world."
Still leaves me speechless. Lyrical masterpiece of imagery.
