Cool! One of my favorite bands. The Kirkwood brothers, on vocals/guitar and bass respectively. A trio. I generally like trios.

I'll stop after this one. Please give this a listen. "Two Rivers". The intro is long at about 1.5 minutes, but stick with it. The shimmering cascading guitar is aptly, very watery. And with the strong bass line. Love it. His voice is soothing as well.

I really like these guys! They are somewhat reminiscent of early Talking Heads, maybe? I can't put my finger on who it is.
Nice song. Thanks Magna.

PS. You must really miss that coffee shop.

It was a great experience to be sure. It was a celebration of the senses. Which makes me think of the song "All Of My Senses" by Grant Hart. I will be posting that now!

I would have, man. I bought that album way back, since I knew some of the songs from Nirvana's Unplugged (age 12 or 13, probably). Didn't Paul Leary from the Butthole Surfers produce one of their albums? Maybe I'm mixing bands up.

I like Joyce. I just find that he became "purposely obscure" after "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man."

I wish there was music which expresses Stephen Daedelus' feelings when he listened to that Fire and Brimstone speech when he was in prep school (in Portrait of the Artist).

The guy was very good when he wasn't being "experimental."

Sorry I missed this Joyce discussion between you two. Finnegans Wake is tough, but I think his ability to make art of the unconscious is admirable. He was doing what Freud and Jung were doing, but through art, and I think with greater success. It's no wonder he wasn't a fan of theirs (though Jung's not helping Joyce's daughter certainly played a role in that).

About as low as you can get......

"Your eyes are almost dead
Can't get out of bed
And you can't sleep
You're sitting down to dress
And you're a mess
You look in the mirror
You look in your eyes
Say you realize
Everybody goes
Leaving those who fall behind
Everybody goes
As far as they can,
They don't just care.
They stood on the stairs
Laughing at your errors
Your mother's dead
She said, "Don't be afraid."
Your mother's dead
You're on your own
She's in her bed
Everybody goes
Leaving those who fall behind
Everybody goes
As far as they can
They don't just care
You're a wasted face
You're a sad-eyed lie
You're a holocaust."

I love this song. Have you heard "Mrs. Lennon" by Yoko Ono? It's where he took the music from:

That's a good question on the Paul Leary thing. I'm not sure. If you find out let me know.
