Good on Paul McCartney for writing this song and bringing attention to selective mutism. I'm frustrated, though. Once again the example is of a girl who experiences mutism at school, but speaks like a chatterbox at home. What happens when it's the reverse? What about people like me who don't / can't speak to their parent, but would engage in academic discourse at school, without reserve? There's virtually no research on the phenomenon of adult mutism with one's parents, or the pain it can cause during extended family gatherings like Christmas.
I'm tired of being an anomaly
