On Rowan and Martin's "Laugh-in," there used to be a funny telephone operator, Ernestine, who was played by Lily Tomlin.

You were able to call "information" by calling 411 or 555-1212 until the 1990s. A live operator would answer and give you the information.

When I was married to Elton John I made up 25 digit long-distance phone numbers for his mother (who I hated, whom I referred to simply as "Mother In Law", like on The Flintstones). I would memorise MIL's various 25 digit phone numbers and dial them on an old broken rotary phone and pretend to yell at her. The numbers always had lots of 4's in them.

Analyse that, Freud!

We had a babysitter when we were kids who had a relative or family member that worked for the phone company. If my memory serves me correctly, back then (last 70's early 80's) if you dialed the number: 417-3911 and hung up, about ten seconds later your phone would ring. We had such fun with that.

I'm a bit of an Arctic Monkeys fanatic. It's pure seduction.

I'm sure I've posted this first one before, but I love the video effects:

Oh, the elocution! Be still my heart! ^

I keep on thinking bout you, sister golden hair surprise
And I just can't live without you, can't you see it in my eyes?
I've been one poor correspondent, and I've been too too hard to find
But it doesn't mean you ain't been on my mind
