Thought I would try something a bit more challenging this time. Didn't work out as I had planed, was more annoying than challenging.

Man, your stuff is really good! I loved the box you posted a few pages back. Have you sold any of it? How long have you been making that sort of thing?

Thanks :D Nope, I haven't tried to sell anything. I've been whittling for around 4 months.

A cartoon-like version of my heroine Bangola the Jungle Queen, an African warrior babe who fights dinosaurs, sorcerers, and other perils. I plan to draw a jungle backdrop for this character within this week.

@BrandonSP (or other artists) - Have you guys thought about illustrating children's books? With the plethora of illustrators and writers here on WP, I'm surprised it's not being done already. (Unless it is and I don't know about it).

@All posters - please ensure the images you post here (or anywhere on WP) are no larger than 800x600 (600x800).

The forum software has bugs which incorrectly scale images larger than this so not only does your image become distorted, it can also mess with the thread layout with the result that buttons and parts of posts are pushed off the screen.
There is no active development on the forum software so it's very unlikely this will ever be fixed, therefore we rely on you guys to help keep threads looking sensible.

If you want to post an image larger than 800x600, just paste its URL without making use of the [img] tags.
People will need to click on that to view the image - but at least it will be seen undistorted by the forum software.

Thanks.

Here's an image I drew a few weeks back. Poor doggie passed away last September, so I drew her from memory.

Bubbles

I made the bubbles the same color as the background to give them a "clear" look, as well as add a shining effect to them. This is also the first drawing that I experimented with cropping as you can tell by the image size.

^ Nice highlights on the bubbles!

Mother of a Pharaoh
I wanted to practice drawing a character older than my usual subjects, so here's an elderly African woman who could come from either the ancient Egyptian or Nubian civilizations. I imagine her as some Pharaoh's wise old mother.

^ I agree with Lenny, those sketches by Moknin are wonderful.

These three little portraits depict an Egyptian Pharaoh and two diplomats visiting her court, one from Babylonia (in Mesopotamia, now Iraq) and the other from a more southerly part of Africa. Someday when I get better at drawing architecture and backgrounds, I'd like to draw these three characters together in one scene, with the diplomats offering exotic products as tribute to the Pharaoh.

Alternatively I could request someone else to draw the scene for me, just in case anyone out there is interested...

What I drew above is TERRIBLE compared to this.

Anarbaculardrop, you have a lot of potential. Just keep practicing.

If you would like a friendly suggestion, I'd say try cleaning up your lineart a little bit. It doesn't have to be perfect or impeccable, but your art would look really nice if you cleaned it up a little bit. :)

If this is what you consider a sketch, what would you call a finished drawing? 8O

Thanks :D I am a great fan of the German military in WW1 & 2, but that's not the only inspiration of this work. To quote my Facebook status:

Quote:
Sometime when I got depressed at work I saw in my mind a lone sentry fighting a hopeless war. That's him.
No matter how tough things go; how long I had to stay; how hard the task was, he would always stay by me on his little paper post.

Therefore I just have to draw it as well as it can be :)

And to answer your question: I would consider a real drawing as something not made by an office blue-pen on a tiny notebook page with silly grids and lines
