The Severed Alliance does a great job of going over The Smith's history, and Marr was interviewed for the book. It's very informative,
with interesting information on Morrissey's attempts to keep the band going (they did some recordings which sound like The Clash, apparently), and how both segued into solo work. Morrissey hates it, and as much as I love his music, that gives it some credibility

Hmm....I'm under the impression he was the problem. Have you read his autobiography?
I used to be a diehard fan (go to gigs too), but his politics don't agree with me at all. I haven't listened to anything he's released in the past several years. Took me a while to start listening to his music again....there are good memories attached to the older stuff and I'm not giving them up because of his views!
