story, but it works.

Spots in my eyes. I've got spots in my eyes. Not spots you can see, they're on my side. I see them when I'm looking at you. To start with, I thought it was dirty windows. Then I thought it was little flies in the air, but it isn't, it's spots in the eyes. I'm trying to find out where the spots are in my eyes. If you see me staring at a white wall or trying to make one eye look at the other eye, that's what I'm doing. Looking for the spots in my eyes. Actually, I don't know what an eye is. Maybe it's a plastic ball, or it's a kind of round fishtank, glass outside, water inside, and the spots are floating around in the fishtank of my eye. I wish I could get rid of them. When people look up at the sky and say, "Look at that! Haha! Not a cloud in sight!" I look up, too. And there's all that blue sky, and there, floating across that blue are, the spots.

It is not a true civilization, and has nothing in it to satisfy a mature and fully developed human mind. It is attuned to the mentality of the galley-slave and the moron, and crushes relentlessly with disapproval, ridicule, and economic annihilation any sign of actually independent thought and civilised feeling whith chances to rise above its sodden level. It is a treadmill, squirrel-trap culture – drugged and frenzied with the hashish of industrial servitude and material luxury. It is wholly a material body-culture, and its symbol is the tiled bathroom and steam radiator rather than the Doric portico and the temple of philosophy. Its denizens do not live or know how to live.”
― H.P. Lovecraft

"Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the President, and the same thing applies to governors and U.S. senators and congress members." Jimmy Carter

W. B Yeats in these lines from the first verse of his very famous poem The Second Coming:

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity
