This Storm, by James Ellroy.

Sequel to Perfidia, a combination of corrupt LAPD detectives and those they've entrapped, during racial hate directed against Japanese Americans and Latinos, and unsolved murder, are caught in the whirlwind of WWII history.
First rate Ellroy.

I love 20th C. detective stories set in L.A., the gritty, postwar setting is so compelling. Have you read Walter Mosley or Raymond Chandler?

I know their names, but I haven't read anything by them.

That looks like a good one. I most recently started on Watership Down by Richard Adams. I put it away for now because it was getting intense and I'm going through a lot. I'll get back to it when things get settled for me.

The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald

I'm either falling in love with 19th century literature, or just so happening to pick some truly excellent examples of it to read. Or both.

"Should We All Be Vegan" by Molly Watson.

The conclusion: Yes the world should go vegan, for many ecological and ethical reasons. :)
