While not a song per say, but a classical piece of music:

Arvo Part's Spiel Im Spiegel.

It doesn't help that it is a very morose peice of music and that I bought the cd of it during a very depressing period in my life.

This one never fails. It's by Dan Balan, a singer from the Republic of Moldova, my current fave musician and sexiest man alive :) :) :)

This one is also Dan's, but it's in Romanian. It is basically a suicide note, and the chorus can be translated as "And I am going up toward the sky...and I feel I'm leaving you, my angel. When rain will fall on the earth, you will know that I sing about you. (Despre Tine Cînt, the title of the song, means "I sing about you" in Romanian) When the sun will be on the earth, you will know that I sing about you."

Messages - Velvet Revolver

The theme/lyrics (9/11) coupled with the melody...

If your not the one - Daniel Beddingfield because it reminds me of my ex gf and (still) best friend. It was pretty complicated as when we met we were both in unhappy relationships but didn't meet up because we didn't want anything that shouldn't to happen. She was very untrusting and wary because of things that had happened to her in the past and... well, I'm me and useless socially. All I could do was be there and be the best friend I could. After three years of meeting and talking and knowing how much we liked each other and both being single we decided to met up and it was like we'd know each other forever. We sat up watching music channels, talking and ended up a bit drunk... which resulted in me singing this to her. In the end it didn't work out, we live to far apart and she's got too many unresolved past issues... but she is one of the few people I can call a friend. real bittersweet one for me but I tend not to listen to itcos I know I'll end up crying

There is one somg that never fails to make me sniffle everytime I hear it. I would really like to share it with you guys but unfortunately there's no youtube link for it.

Anyways, the song is called Blood and it's by Abandoned Pools. My boyfriend first played it for me when I was going through a rough time in life. The lyrics pretty much tell the story of my life.

I see the happy the family tree
It sways so easily
We're smiling all the time
This world just isn't mine

We watch it burn
And we never learn
This can't be what you're waiting for
Staring into the sun
We eat our young
This can't be what you're waiting for

Just take it easy on yourself
Forget all the stupid things we say
I know you beat up on yourself
I know it's in your blood

You say what no one understands
The seeds are in your hands
The branches break your bones
I can't just leave you alone
And watch you squirm

And I can't bring myself to look
I rip the pages from the book
And watch it burn

"Con Te Partiro" - the Andrea Bocelli version
"Beloved" -VNV Nation, if I'm in the past
Several Beatles songs

There are others. Kansas's "Dust in the Wind" has come close many times, because it was a favorite of Dave's, and I wanted to cry over his death, but for all the times I've felt the sting, it's never happened.

I'll post edits as I remember.

Fire and Rain by James Taylor. (The saddest song ever written)

Just yesterday morning they let me know you were gone
Susanne the plans they made put an end to you
I walked out this morning and I wrote down this song
I just can't remember who to send it to

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Won't you look down upon me, Jesus
You've got to help me make a stand
You've just got to see me through another day
My body's aching and my time is at hand
And I won't make it any other way

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Been walking my mind to an easy time my back turned towards the sun
Lord knows when the cold wind blows it'll turn your head around
Well, there's hours of time on the telephone line to talk about things
To come
Sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground

Oh, I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you, baby, one more time again, now

Thought I'd see you one more time again
There's just a few things coming my way this time around, now
Thought I'd see you, thought I'd see you fire and rain, now
