I like a lot of that EMO stuff like
Alkaline Trio
Amber Pacific
Cauterize
Diffuser
Flyleaf
My Chemical Romance
New Found Glory
Paramore
Senses Fail
Simple Plan
Smile Empty Soul
Something Corporate
Story of the Year
The All-American Rejects
The Ataris

To name a few groups. I can really relate to that stuff.
When I'm in a really depressing mood thou; I find some stuff by Carrie Underwood to be extremely depressing; Just a Dream & Wasted made me cry quite a few times. Phil Collins can be very depressing to thou; Against All Odds & Separate Lives for example. Celine Dion is pretty depressing to at times. For some rezone I like to torture my soul

but what's your favourite depressing music/song/band?

I really like depressing music, but a lot of people can't seem to listen to it. I suppose I really like the emotion attached to it.

I haven't really heard much, just a couple of Radiohead songs, and other stuff here and there, I need to expand to other stuff.

What depressing stuff does you like then?

I find Radiohead to be uplifting, not depressing. If a piece of music had a depressive effect on me I would not listen to it.

My friends wonder, but depressing music helps me to improve my mood, I don't know why, but it works.
One of my favorite bands is November Novelet. Really depressive music. I have all their albums and listen often, especially in the winter.

I think the Gin Blossoms are a really good depressing music sometimes. The original guitarist, Doug Hopkins was having lots of problems over a break up & it reflected in his song writing. He was hoping to get back together with her & he wrote the song "Hey Jealousy" about it but he was kicked up of the group before the CD was recorded cuz of alcohol issues & when the single became a hit; Doug shot himself

"Follow You Down" is another sag song that seems related to Doug

I can really relate to this kind of stuff

The chords and everything in this song is incredibly emotional. This guy's music is amazing in general. When I'm depressed his works capture the feelings perfectly. Listen to his other works, Soundtrack to a Vacant Life is among his best for emotional music.

Paramore is mildly depressing, their music tends to be ranty (which I like) on things. Kanon Wakeshima, in a context, has some sad songs. Suna no Oshiro has a sad tune, but I don't know the lyrics in English.

Elliott Smith can be depressing at times. Like the songs Needle in the Hay and Between the Bars. And Radiohead. 8O Their first the three albums are the most depressing stuff I've ever heard. And that Jeff Buckley song Hallelujah.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned Alice In Chains yet. So many of their songs, particularly before Layne Staley died, are about being mired in patterns of self-destruction (drug addiction being the most obvious). And Layne's death certainly puts a somber punctuation on those.

I'm also going to go ahead and suggest Stabbing Westward. Most of their stuff (especially Darkest Days) is on the melancholy side, if not completely self-hating. Much of it is about going through relationship problems and break-ups. It's depressing as hell, but sometimes when I'm feeling bad, I find it strangely comforting and cathartic-- I guess because it makes me realize I'm not alone in my pain.
