Okay, I'm retracting what I said earlier about Lady Gaga. I was mistaken. She is not the most overrated. After hearing his new single "Power" over the weekend, and seeing clips of his new video, I believe that distinction has to be given to Kanye West. It's old news that Kanye's got an ego the size of a supermassive black hole. But I think this is a new level even for him.

I think Kanye truly believes his own hype. I think he truly believes he is God.

I don't think Kanye's bad, necessarily... but he's not God.

I mean, in the video, he stands under the Sword of Damocles. He seems to think that he has some sort of actual awesome Godlike power, aside from being a rapper.

The song seems to be about how persecuted he is, because of how much power he wields. Most of the time, though, he actively brings the criticism on himself, for not being able to show self-restraint ("George Bush doesn't care about black people", the whole Taylor Swift thing at the VMAs), and for his public displays of indulgence in stroking his own ego. You know, like what he's just done with his new song and video.

And by the way... the original King Crimson song was waaaaay better.

Justin Beiber and Ke$hia. I've developed an aversion to Top 40 in High School.

I think that's why rap is popular. People get an ego boost from listening to that music. I might be mistaken.

I was randomly browsing music threads on here and brought up this thread, in case you're wondering why the post above me is from Oct. 5.

Most overrated artists right now are, IMO:
- Taio Cruz
- Beyoncé
- Ke$ha, definitely
- Nicki Minaj (who the eff is she, anyway? where did she come from?)
- 3OH!3

Power's a good song, they put it on the trailers for The Social Network and it sounded cool. But you're not wrong about Kanye having a massive Ego.

Have you heard this yet?

I personaly dont like Disney stuff, I really hate the Camp Rock "movies" because they has absolutely nothing to do with Rock, and the worst thing is that kids start to describe their songs as "rock music" :eew: .

I never watched those movies but I like the songs. Demi Lovato is in rehab rite now http://www.people.com/people/article/0, ... 08,00.html
I know very little about it but I heard she used to date one of the Jonas's Brothers & attacked his new girl-friend while they were on tour together.
Those Disney stars have problems

Ow, ow ow ow ow ow! But it feels so true to the life of poor Kurt.
And just let those Disney brats have a taste of Bachman-Turner Overdrive (Takin' Care of Business), let alone Green Day (American Idiot)or Nirvana (Smells Like Teen Spirit): compared to those acts, Camp Rock offers only dust music. (Not e-ven!)

On second thought, Asp-Z is right too; they are camp.

Katie Perry is one that really annoys me.

Akon because it's all so obviously autotuned.

:wall: WHY! Bieber Why did you even compared yourself to Kurt Cobain. :wall:
anyways, I think Lady Gaga and pretty much everyone else mentioned previously are overrated.

Bieber compared himself to Cobain? Reminds me of the story of the late Jimmy Lee Lindsey who, the story says, was told he would be made into the next Cobain, and he replied, "Does that come with the shotgun?"

Every song that plays on every major American radio station.

107.5 plays manufactured Hip Pop crap
100.3 plays a little of 107.5 mixed with emo/Greenday-esque rock
The rest sometimes plays good music, but nothing from the last two or three years.

I wish there would somehow be a station that plays good music regardless of their popularity with the mainstream.

Good is a relative term. If it's popular with the mainstream it is considered good because lots of people like it. I couldn't resist pointing out a flaw at logic

If it's popular with the mainstream (and it could be for years or weeks) it would be at least considered "successful"; not always good however in terms of production quality. How else could you explain "Crank Dat" peaking on the charts? It's all in the marketing.

Good is technically an opinion thou but now I know what category your referring to/how your defining it; you are completely rite. It's mostly about the marketing. Some songs are extremely overplayed & lots of great song get very little airplay.

Overrated list:

1.} Justin Bieber

3.} Jonas Bros.
