Heh, doesn't sound like her but I swear she could be a twin for Kelly Dayton/Ali

Recently, I've come across a Dutch singer of Moluccan (Pacific Islander) descent, whose voice I've really come to like. Her name is Julya Lo'ko (real name Julya Lekranty).

Here she is again, with her old band Cheyenne. in the '80s. Sorry for the bad sound quality, and yes, I think she may be lip syncing here. But no matter, because she CAN sing live.

And here she's singing a more 'traditional' Indonesian song in Malay, this genre is what we call kroncong (or krontjong in Dutch spelling). She's accompanied by guitarist Erwin van Ligten (who himself has mixed Dutch/Indonesian roots). I've had the pleasure of listening to them live last summer.

psayles, above the box where you type your reply, you should see a small YouTube icon, right next to the 'bold/italics/underline' option. Click that, and you'll get a window where you can insert the url of the Youtube video, and it will be embedded in your post.

Alternatively, you could also plain copy and paste the URL, and then put the Youtube tags around it, like so (spaces inserted around the URL for clarification):

Without spaces you'll see:

Among my favorites Bjork, Jill Scott, Alanis Morissette, Alison Krauss and Billy Holliday are already posted, only Aretha Franklin is missing.
I also like Ladyhawke (aspie :)), ABBA, Cocteau Twins, Portishead, Cranberries and Dead Can Dance.
