Why the hate against Country Music?

Meny and perhaps most country songs are about relationships and contain heavy gospel type preaching and I and meny don't care for that much. I also dislike the glam element that tends to be a part of country much the same why I dislike 1980's hair metal. As the OP appears to mention theres a difference between new country, the more pop derived verson that gets all the radio airplay and the standard country music you mentioned. I do like the older country, not my favorite however I do like it.

I tend to lean toward independant alt. country, alt folk, roots rock, americona type music (think Steve Earle), as it is like country only without the common parts of country I dislike, like what grunge was to hair metal in the early 1990's and I like grunge too for the same reasons.

So yes I like country music, sort of.

I don't know, I know a lot of people who like country. Why else would it be in the iTunes Top 10? I love Darius Rucker and Blake Shelton.

One of my favorite country songs of all times. This was one of my "aspie" tracks, you know, the ones you play in a loop till you finally get tired of it.

I think it's a reputation for Conservatism, combined with a relative slowness to "integrate, " Darius Rucker and Charley Pride being rarities in the genre. Lack of black artists are somewhat of a bad rap, Heavy Metal and Punk (at least their popular face) was also pretty white and macho for a long time. I know I'm going to get flamed, for saying that . The only real integrated genre was Disco, which was one of the reasons why it was so hated.

Because when I was very small I had a recurring nightmare about a dobro eating my soul and using it to produce the twang in Toby Keith's voice by way of inflitrating his man parts.

No, but seriously. I hate the tone and subject matter of most cuntry music... either self-righteous white trash, or maudlin sentimentality. From the voice to the instrumentals to the lyrics. There are exceptions; I do like about 2/3 of Natalie Maines' work because of good lyrics and complexity, but I know she's been largely exiled from the genre. But hey, I'd still be more likely to listen to it than Contemporary Christian, Gospel, or mariachi.

I just don't like the sound of it as a rule. It's hard to like one genre exclusively because there will always be a large amount of the same thing fringed by a few uniquely talented stand-outs. I don't do the "anything with a beat" thing. If music becomes common to me, I don't want to hear it.

But I like a few country type songs... "Looking for Space" by John Denver (lot of John Denver) and "Rex Marksley" by Steam Powered Giraffe, for examples.

I just dont like it being polarized.

Unlike other genres, say such as Pop and Rock music, which are widely accepted. Country music is made out to be as if its that other
type of music that nobody will tolerate under any circumstances, when it has really good songs in there, and it contains artistic qualities which render it a superior genre of music. There are no fence sitters with Country music. No one says they can take it or leave it. They either hate it, or they love it.

Whats more annoying is People say they will listen to
"everything" except Country music, but that is hardly true, because they really don't listen to
everything , they just listen to probably top 40 pop rock music, which is far worse than Country music.
Classic Rock for example, is conventional, banal, and soulless. Dance music is hideous and repetitive.

Maybe its because they didn't grow up with Country music? I love Country music because it sounds the most natural
as to what music should sound like. They never elaborate as to why they don't like Country music or anything.
I find that suspicious. I mean, at least Country music still sounds like music. Its not primitive sounding, like Rap

Only if you're mainstream. There is wonderful Country music being produced that is not on the radio.
I don't mind twangy country songs, as long as its authentic. Take Randy Travis for example- he is real.
I love Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, George Strait, and I also love the cowboy artists such as Michael Martin
Murphy. His songs are like a brush stroke about cowboy life but in a way that is not self righteous.

I find that Rock music is painful to listen to because its loud and screaming vocals, and Rap music is primitive sounding to my ears. Country music in general is lighter and softer and more soothing. At least the kind I prefer.

Im not sure what twang is. But there are many different types of Country songs. That is only a sampling of the various styles of Country. The type of Country I listen to sounds so different than the song you posted, yet its still Country. The thing is, everyone thinks Country sounds the same. But it really doesn't. If you're a real Country music listener (for artistic sake) then you realize how diverse the genre is.

You confuse simple with "primitive". They aren't the same thing. Rock music at least has some melody, but rap has hardly any. Country has basic melodic structure and chords which make music. And even then, there are some riffs in Country guitar and fiddle that are not simple or easy to play as people might think. I mean Rap and Rock are primitive because they sound like noise and they aren't pretty or easy on the ears. Its all about beats and such, which is not melodic or nice sounding.

Its funny you mention Southern drawl, because most Country Stars today are not from the South, they are faking. Thats why it sounds bad. I have a Southern drawl, but when I sing most people can't hear it, because I don't fake it. Its part of me. Im sorry you dont like Southern drawls. Frankly, northern accents sound a lot worse to me. Northerners speak really fast and through the nose and really like jack hammers. Not soft and lilting like we do here in Virginia.

Taylor Swift is really not that bad at all. Id take her any day over the primitive, hideous noise they call Rap "music".

There is nothing wrong with having a Southern accent!

Im down with near any type of music as long as it isn't so overly produced that it becomes crap...

i.e.: Lil Wayne, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Beyonce, LMFAO, Cher, Madonna, Toby Keith, New Metallica, New Daft Punk, etc.

Its just unfortunate that rap, and country seem to be the most susceptible to this kind of commercialisation. Its just that most people want to be successful with their music so the follow the pop-trend, and thus we have a stagnation of genre instead of progression.
