This may sound strange coming from a posh person like me, but uptight conservative types need Manson. They need him Manson because he throws them into stark relief as uptight conservatives. And if these uptight conservatives did not exist, Manson would have no one to rebel against and thus his existence would have no purpose ...... and then he might really be angry.

Who are you but what your opponent opposes? Yin and yang, Wayne & Schuster.

My sister is (or was) a fan. Is it true he had his lower ribs removed?

Yeah, he did. Such is the extent of his rebel-ness. Some people will do anything to show you just how rebel and bad-a$$ they are. And it's so obvious. That's why it's dumb. The long-term effects of having a shortened ribcage could be very nasty. God knows what other strange & unnatural things Marlyin has done to himself. Maybe one day he'll get that gender reassignment and be done with all this posturing.

:lmao:

I heard there was another reason why he had his lower ribs removed, and I used to think it was just a rumour.

If it's true, then I doubt he would want to get a gender reassignment any time soon.

Manson is a character. A great deal of his appeal comes from who he is as a person, rather than just his music. He's got this entertaining, charismatic, extreme media personality that is so vivid that it seems more fitting for a literary character than for a real person--which is, of course, the whole point. Even his name--Marilyn Monroe mixed with Charles Manson--is intended to demonstrate that it's all fake, that it's all just a show. He HAS to keep trying to appear as charmingly wicked as possible to keep the image alive, and even if his new music doesn't sound anything like his old stuff it's still fun to watch him talk about it in interviews.

I don't agree with everything Manson says. I think that in many ways he's a horrible man. But god damn it, he's captivating. He's fascinating. Above all, he's a CHARACTER. And I think that that's a wonderful thing.

I just realized: what doctor in his right mind would truncate a patient's ribcage? Is there a legally-practising surgeon anywhere on the planet who would do this for any amount of money?

OMG

I just watched a youtube clip on Charles Manson the other day. Cool trivia, I didn't know that.

Despite the fact his music doesn't do much for me, I think he's an extremely clever guy.
Most people COMPLETELY miss the point of what he's about and take him too seriously.

And also, I think shifting the blame of some kid going postal to Marilyn Manson is about as ****ing dimwitted as it gets.
If someone has it in them to commit murder, then there's something wrong with them from the start. No amount of Grand Theft Auto or Marilyn Manson could push a person as far as killing their fellow man.

I grew up playing games like Grand Theft Auto (for the PS1  .. those were the days eh?) and watching films like The Matrix when I wasn't old enough to be watching them (and wasn't allowed to, but who payed attention to their parents as a kid :P) and I turned out just fine.
Until I was 14 I had a pretty nasty agression problem, but even then it never made me any worse, because violent video games, or music with content like Manson's albums, or violent movies, or any of that stuff, is an outlet for agression.

I'm also Aspie, and that's aparrently supposed to make me more impressionable to such things, but guess what? I turned out just fine. Sure, I'm very high functioning, but there's still something aparrently not "typical" about the ol' noggin.
I'm obviously not some sort of Aspie archetype, but for Christ's sake, how anyone can think that Marilyn Manson's music could make some kid kill someone is beyond me.
All the people crusading against violent movies, video games and music are the ones that make terrible arguments and are nothing more than clones of the people that crusaded against Elvis.
And I'm sorry, but I highly doubt someone pulled a ****ing Charles Manson while listening to Jailhouse Rock.

MM's response to the news that a teenage gunman was one of his adoring fans, the bastard blamed it on society, on the parents, on anybody that wasn't him. It's not funny when there's real-life consequences.

What this man is doing is nothing special. It's been done before (corrupting innocents) and it'll be done again. Nothing about MM is unique. Soon enough, the next MM will become rich and famous.

Oh dear, *shakes head*

You seem like a nice guy. Cerainly a very smart one, but I don't like how you immeadiatly write off anyone who disagrees with your particular personal views as being 'corrupted' (CF. Satanists being like Nazis) as if anyone who deviates from the norm, be it through personal choice or difference in personality, were doomed to burn in hell, the same way so many evangelists claim they will.

This sort of religously concervative approach is strangling the fledgling alternative society. I think I would be somewhat right in saying more people are killed by people who identify themselves as christians than murdered in so called 'satanic rituals'.

I find it strange and saddening that someone who showed such sense in the anti-psychiatry debate can be obtuse and quick to demonise people who he does not understand as being 'corrupted', as if your religious view were arbitray.

Try watching this video, and tell me these alternative people and possible manson fans are 'corrupted' ( Also my good friend Sef is in it)

Now tell me that because somebody likes Manson, they're 'Corrupted' as you put it.

EDIT: Okay, After my intiial angry reaction, I've toned down my wording to be more sympathetic and not so trollish.

Slowmutant, do you have any sort of Instant messaging address, I would very much like to talk to you about this subject in a calm and digified manor.

To be honest that's part of what I like about him. XD It's not like he's saying nobody can be Christian...he's just playing with the iconography and putting an alternative perspective on it all. That's one of the reasons why "Holy Wood" is one of my favorite albums...religious people blamed him for the Colombine shootings when a lot of his music is actually quite anti-violence, making fun of a violent mindset. So he replied by making an album about how Americans as a culture basically glorify violence, especially in the media and most of all in religion. Well, at least, that's my interpretation of it.

his last album really disappointed me. i don't wanna see Manson crooning about how his heart was broken! i want to see him tearing down society at the seems! when i heard he was going on tour with Slayer in support of that album i thought Slayer's fans were gonna tear him a new one.

How to be so certain that Marilyn is just "poking fun" at a violent mindset with his music and images? Making fun of it or exalting it? I'm not the type who can be easily fooled with worldplay or spin.

If MM is making funny jokes about death & depravity ... I am not amused. :x

Jamesgoodie, you express a desire to see Manson tear society apart at the seams, do you? You depend on that society to exist. Especially with a spectrum diagnosis. If society were torn apart, no more Anime. No more video-games or Pokeman cards.

An intelligent man, with a gift for manipulating imagery, who has become a totem for disaffected youth. Others have gone before him, and others will come after. And the lucky bast got to marry Dita Von Teese ...
