Not an AS song, but I feel this way a lot. Especially "what do they know that I don't know?"

Who Are These People by Trout Fishing in America

In the books that I've been reading,
they say exactly what they mean,
They don't say uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
They don't stutter, they don't mutter.
They don't repeat themselves.
They don't repeat themselves.
They know exactly what they're doing, they know why.
Who are these people? Where do they live?
They have so much to offer, they have so much to give.
Who are these people? What do they know that I don't know?
Who are they?
In the movies I've been watching, everyone's beautiful,
Unless they're ugly and then they're really ugly.
Acting like it all makes sense to be doing what they do,
They don't act anything at all like me and you.
Who are these people? Where do they live?
I haven't met them in my travels, never went to school with them.
Where are these keen minds with their perfect sentences,
Calm and collected, so full of confidence?
They're not sick unless they're dying,
They don't watch too much TV,
Their life's so action-packed that they may never get to sleep.
Who are these people? What do they know that I don't know?
Who are they?
Recycle perfumed pages of a glossy magazine.
Swim the random channels of remote control.
Run a music marathon on late night radio,
A family photo album of the people I don't know.
Who are these people? Where do they live?
I haven't met them in my travels, never went to school with them.
Where are these keen minds with their perfect sentences,
Calm and collected, so full of confidence?
Who are these people? What do they know that I don't know?
Who are they?

Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles, with John Lennon on lead vocals.

Just about any of Syd Barrett's songs, solo or with the Pink Floyd.

"Mad World" (Tears for Fears)

all around me are familiar faces
worn out places
worn out faces
bright and early for the daily races
going no where
going no where
their tears are filling up their glasses
no expression
no expression
hide my head i wanna drown my sorrow
no tomorrow
no tomorrow
and i find i kind of funny
i find it kind of sad
the dreams in which i'm dying are the best i've ever had
i find it hard to tell you
i find it hard to take
when people run in circles its a very very
mad world
mad world
children waiting for the day they feel good
happy birthday
happy birthday
and i feel the way that every child should
sit and listen
sit and listen
went to school and i was very nervous
no one knew me
no one new me
hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
look right through me
look right through me
and i find i kind of funny
i find it kind of sad
the dreams in which i'm dying are the best i've ever had
i find it hard to tell you
i find it hard to take
when people run in circles its a very very
mad world
mad world
enlarging your world
mad world

I've been thinking about two. This is the first one.

"Stuck In The Middle With You" by Stealer's Wheel

Well I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you.

Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,
And I'm wondering what it is I should do,
It's so hard to keep this smile from my face,
Losing control, yeah, I'm all over the place,
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Well you started out with nothing,
And you're proud that you're a self made man,
And your friends, they all come crawlin,
Slap you on the back and say,
Please.... Please.....

Trying to make some sense of it all,
But I can see that it makes no sense at all,
Is it cool to go to sleep on the floor,
'Cause I don't think that I can take anymore
Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right,
Here I am, stuck in the middle with you.

Well you started out with nothing,
And you're proud that you're a self made man,
And your friends, they all come crawlin,
Slap you on the back and say,
Please.... Please.....

Well I don't know why I came here tonight,
I got the feeling that something ain't right,
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair,
And I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs,
Clowns to the left of me,
Jokers to the right, here I am,
Stuck in the middle with you,
Yes I'm stuck in the middle with you,
Stuck in the middle with you.

I've been thinking about two. This is the second one.

"Theme From Midnight Cowboy (Everybody's Talking At Me)" by Harry Nilsson

Everybody's talking at me.
I don't hear a word they're saying,
Only the echoes of my mind.
People stopping staring,
I can't see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes.

I'm going where the sun keeps shining
Thru' the pouring rain,
Going where the weather suits my clothes,
Backing off of the North East wind,
Sailing on summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone.

I'm going where the sun keeps shining
Thru' the pouring rain,
Going where the weather suits my clothes,
Backing off of the North East wind,
Sailing on summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone

I gotta go with Radiohead.
A lot of their songs deal with particular states of mind that I think we are all familiar with.
This one is so simple, but it just happens to really speak to me.
The video supplements the meaning quite well, too.

No Surprises - by Radiohead

Lyrics:
A heart that's full up like a landfill,
a job that slowly kills you,
bruises that won't heal.
You look so tired-unhappy,
bring down the government,
they don't, they don't speak for us.
I'll take a quiet life,
a handshake of carbon monoxide,

with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
Silence, silence.

This is my final fit,
my final bellyache,

with no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises,
no alarms and no surprises please.

Such a pretty house
and such a pretty garden.

No alarms and no surprises (get me outta here),
no alarms and no surprises (get me outta here),
no alarms and no surprises, please.

i have to point out that there are several radiohead songs that i think are better representations of aspieness, for example analyse, or myxomatosis, or paranoid android--but my number one pick in that category i think would have to be subterranean homesick alien :thumright:

This song, if heard with the accompanying video, is sadly representative of a lot of our childhoods. Powerful and positive ending though.

- R.E.M, "The Wrong Child" might be about anything that makes you an outcast, but applies to AS very well:

(...)
I'm not supposed to be like this
I'm not supposed to be like this
But it's okay

Hey, those kids are looking at me
I told my friend myself
Those kids are looking at me
They're laughing and they're running over here
They're laughing and they're running over here
What do I do?
What can I do?
What should I do?
What do I say?
What can I say?

- Simone White, "A Bunny in a Bunny Suit" reflects my experience a lot:

pretending to be myself again
acting as if I was who I am
wearing the clothes that I always wear
and doing the usual thing to my hair
(...)
of all the disguises I've ever worn
I flatter myself in the most sincere form
still I'm kept at a distance by friends
for just pretending to be myself again
