Late 1974, T Rex performing live on the Don Kirshner Rock Show in the USA. The core of the band is still intact, with Mickey Finn on congas and Steve Currie on bass, as well as Bolan, of course.
The keyboard player is Dino Dines, who had been with the Beach Boys and was only a member of T Rex for a short time, but I love his performance here. Gloria Jones is the female backing singer - many Bolan fans blame her for breaking up his marriage to June Child and his subsequent decline, and of course she was driving the car in which he was killed in 1977. I don't know...
This in my view is an excellent performance - Bolan's physical state had declined alarmingly from drink and drugs since his peak in 1971, but his guitar work is brilliantly powerful, as are his vocals, though in a somewhat raw and unorthodox style...
