From the summer of 1978. Manhattan Transfer were at the height of their fame here, but much mocked as well as the Punk Rock phenomenon gained ascendancy. I recall Peter Cook making a devastatingly witty comment about them around this time, but can't remember what he said, LOL. Anyway, a very enjoyable performance. The female lead singer, Laurel, was involved in a serious car accident not long after this, but I believe she made a good recovery.

Rubbish picture quality, but worth a look to get a glimpse of the atmosphere in the 'Top Of The Pops' studio in the 1982-84 period. Dollar were David Van Day and Therese Bazaar, and they produced some decent stuff around this time. They had briefly been members of the British Group 'Guys 'n' Dolls' earlier on. Van Day managed to get himself into a version of the UK Eurovision Song Contest winners group Bucks Fizz many years later, but this ended in failure - I forget the details.

And here are Guys 'n' Dolls from 1975. Van Day and Bazaar are the pair on the left, not immmediately recognizable perhaps because of their dark hair. The lead singer in the centre is Dominic Grant, who died a few months ago from an abdominal aneurism. The female singer in the right-hand pair is Julie Forsyth, the daughter of legendary British gameshow host Bruce Forsyth. She went on to marry Dominic Grant.

Was never into The Spice Girls (as if....), but this solo effort by Emma Bunton has always struck me as half-decent. The sound is very similar to the original Petula Clark version from the 1960s.
Pointless fact: there's an obscure Linux computer operating system (distro) called Emmabuntüs. I don't think it has any connection with Emma Bunton. There also is, or was, a distro called Hannah Montana Linux. I think I'm maybe in the wrong forum here...

Terrible picture quality, but worth a look all the same. The BBC's 'Top Of The Pops' studio had a very strange look for a few months circa 1970, somewhat resembling a huge prison cell. Mary Hopkin is perhaps best known as the wife of legendary record producer Tony Visconti, who was instrumental in launching and nurturing the careers of Marc Bolan and David Bowie, among many others. She was a pretty good vocalist and acoustic guitarist as well, of course.
