I can't stop listening to this song. It's so hilarious, like something from the Home Shopping Network.

Thelonious Monk - Criss-Cross

Some criticize this for being a bunch of rerecordings, but I enjoy it. Great selection of material.

This was Great Britain's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1972, and finished second. I quite like it, though I find it a bit irritating that they chose to sing in an American accent. 'Beg steal or barrow....'? 'I always noo....' I bet they don't speak like that in Wythenshawe, which is where lead singer Lyn Paul came from.

Nothing against Americans, just think that British singers should use their native accents.

I agree -

That's why I love Alex Turner from Sheffield, for his enunciation.

This band was from Sheffield too - they don't sing with a strong local accent, but at least it's genuinely British. Those two dancing girls always fascinate me. Susan Sulley was blonde in 'Don't You Want Me Baby', but not here.

Now I'm on an Alex roll and it's all your fault!

Tony Christie was also from South Yorkshire. There's an element of self-parody about his performance here, or at least he doesn't seem to be taking the proceedings too seriously. How could he though, when appearing at 'The Wheeltappers And Shunters Social Club' hosted by Bernard Manning and Colin Crompton?
