The Grateful Dead - Europe '72
Rat in a drain ditch, caught on a limb, you know better but I know him Like I told you, what I said, steal your face right off your head Now he's gone, now he's gone, Lord he's gone, he's gone Like a steam locomotive, rollin' down the track He's gone, he's gone and nothin's gonna bring him back, he's gone
Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain Lost one round but the price wasn't anything A knife in the back and more of the same

Recorded in his personal custom built studio in 1970. Late 90's music video.
I consider his best songs, to be the one's produced in last year of his life.

I don't pretend to know that. He apparently wanted to incorporate classical compositions. In his last interview in England, he mentioned it. Also Lead singer of Animals, Eric Burden, one of the last people i think to see him, they could of done some things together, after all , Chas Chandler, another member of Animals, is who gave Jimi his break in 1966. I picture alot of collaborations. But musically wise, it could have been incredible, with the 48 track multi-track technology, and more crystal clear 70s sound. The world was really robbed, of a virtuoso. I figure, more of a funk sound, moving away from the psychedelic rock, was the trajectory. He wanted his music to be accepted by black community, that was one of his biggest gripes. It also might have been one of the reasons, Noel Redding was replaced, apart from the fact they didn't get along. 'Band of gypsy,' was kind of an attempt in this direction I guess. All black band. But then he didn't get along with, Buddy Miles , and got the original white drummer back, Mitch Mitchell. Who knows what the lineup would of been. Hendrix, might have recorded an album all by himself, everything solo, if he knew how to drum, which i'm not sure if he did.

I heard this a few years back. Very impressive guitar cover. I thought. 70's sound. I'm reminded of it.

Thank you for your thoughts. I don't know much about Hendrix. Sometimes I got the impression he might go in a jazz direction, but that's probably my misconception, as you say classical. That could have been very interesting. Like Cobain, bored with his formula, seeking something more complicated.

I want a big band, I don’t mean three harps and 14 violins – I mean a big band full of competent musicians that I can conduct and write for.
Hendrix liked jazz. He had eclectic tastes. But yeah, Classical compositions was an interest of his. He wanted to expand his sound, push the envelope, evolve musically.

Sounds like he had a spirit similar to Coltrane's.

Quite grand sound. Like a movie soundtrack.
