Holy crap.... you just stimulated my "conspiracy theory" mind! What if Atlantis is* North/South America... and the "myth" of it falling into the sea involves the disappearance of the glacial land bridge across the Bering strait!? Interesting to muse on.

Alligator is top predator until Titanoboa comes along!
