Wow, this thread is amazing.
Brings me back to the good ol days of Jr high & high school.
Back when I didn't care about squat, besides music.
Back when MTV actually DID play music.
Representin the Class of '88 right here.

Prepare for a flood of 80's teenage nostalgia.

I'll start off with one of my favorite bands of the 80's, back before these guys started to suck....

METALLICA!! !!

Here's Cliff Burton (May he rest in peace)
playing (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth

Then, from the ride the lightning album
For Whom The Bell Tolls

and...
Creeping Death

Now from the Master of Puppets album...
Master of Puppets

Leper Messiah

and
Orion

...more to come....
(You guys got me reminiscing)

A thread about 80's music would not be complete with a healthy portion of heavy metal.
The 1980's saw the rise of one of the greatest forms of music (IMO) ever heard by mankind.
advice: best heard turned up to 11.

First, we have the grand masters of all that is metal....
SLAYER!! !!
with
South of Heaven

Of course, we must pay homage to the "Prince of Darkness" himself
Ozzy Osbourne
with
Bark at the Moon

Then, maybe some of you true headbangers remember this freakshow...
King Diamond

...they said rap & metal could never mix..
well, all of them can suck our D***!

here's Anthrax
I'm the Man

How about some more Anthrax...
here's
Caught in a Mosh

Don't forget a little band started by some of the members of Anthrax
S.O.D.
playing "March Of The S.O.D."
This was the original theme song for MTV's "Headbangers Ball"

Now, technically, these guys are categorized as hard rock.
But they rock hard enough to be metal
And "For those about to rock"...
we salute you

Here's AC/DC

make yourselves comfortable folks, I have more....

The 80's was a strange time. The berlin wall was still standing. We saw depressing movies like "The day after".
Many of us we're convinced the nukes would fly any day, so, why bother even caring.
There we're punks, goths, skaters, & headbangers skipping school assemblies, and smoking out in back of the school.
The "good" kids whispered and talked sh*t behind our backs. Still, we didn't care.

We hung out and listened to bands like the Violent Femmes
first, here's
Kiss Off

also
Blister in the Sun

then, we had disturbing bands like
Suicidal Tendencies
with their classic...
Institutionalized

and
I Saw Your Mommy

Enjoy!
(next.... big hair)

yes.... the "big hair" of the 80's, "Glam rock"
An awkward period metal, where guy's started wearing makeup & spandex.
But it still rocked!

here's one of the greats of that genre....

Good 'ol Motley Crue
Who could forget them?

Here's the song that launched them into fame....
Shout at the Devil

and yes, she did have the looks that kill..

rebellion was the name of the game
"Smokin in the boys room"

How about the title track of the Motley Crue album that closed out the 80's
Dr. Feelgood

and one my favorite 'Crue' songs...
Girls, Girls, Girls :)

Here's an extra song from another well known glam band.
Ratt
playing
Round and Round

And what about this 80's CLASSIC!
The Scorpions
Rock you like a hurricane

next, the origins of a genre that carried us into the 21st century....

Now for something a little different.
Without these guys, Snoop and 50-cent might not have had a career.

here's are some of the O.G.'s of rap

Here's Public Enemy with
Don't believe the hype
(BTW: The revolution will NOT be televised)

And speaking about rebellion.
It was the Beastie Boys who taught us that we had to fight for our right to party.

Now, here's a little story I got to tell, about three bad brothas you know so well...
here's
Paul Revere

and one more from their "Licensed to Ill" debut album
Brass Monkey

Time for some respect for the undisputed 'dons' of Rap...
RUN-DMC
King of Rock

And one of the baddest mothaf--- in rap
Here's LL Cool J
Goin back to cali

These fine ladies showed us that the girls we're just as good at rap
And gave us somethin to dance to
Salt-n-Peppa
Push it

....oh, I'm not done yet. I got stuck on a hyperfocus.

O, now for some 'sexy' rock....

You all know these 3 bearded guys with style.
ZZ TOP
she's got legs....
and she knows how to use them...

of course if you want that nice lady,
You have to be a sharp dressed man.

this song reminds me of my 12th grade health class teacher (she was also the cheer leading coach)
Here's Van Halen with
Hot for teacher

Then Diamond Dave moved on to do his own thing...
because David Lee Roth is
Just a gigolo

Are you guys begging for mercy yet?
more 80's on the way...

I'm not all about rap & metal.
There we're a few more "mainstream" songs I liked from the 80's

Here's a much more upbeat one I really love.
Bobby McFerrin

Dont worry... be happy

I have to confess, I was COMPLETELY in love with these girls back in the day...
Bananarama
all three are my Venuses <3

I also had a huge crush on Kim Wilde <3
here's
Kids in america

This song is a classic.
And Billy Joel is a legend
We didn't start the fire.

IMHO, this song is the theme song of the 80's
Styx
Mr. Roboto

ok, these guys are not very 'mainstream'
but they are the gods of goth
Bauhaus
Bela Lugosi's Dead

alright, I promise... just one more post.

And now, I will share my all time favorite band who started in the 80's and are still doing their thing nearly 30 years later.
The granddaddy's of industrial.

SKINNY PUPPY
they are beyond description.
an acquired taste.
But I love their music.

From their 1986 album "Mind: the Perpetual Intercourse"
Stairs and Flowers

from the same album...
200 years

in 1987 they released "Cleanse Fold and Manipulate"
here's
Addiction

and
Deep Down Trauma Hounds

I hope some of you enjoyed my trip back to the 80's
I know some of this stuff not quite common taste.
But this thread was lacking in a few areas I thought I'd fix.

Cheers!
