This piece was written a month ago or even more, since I don't take lessons I write my own practising pieces which always include something that's new to me, I call them experiments, as I did for the guitar. Since it was only my fifth piece it included many new aspects of playing the piano for me.

When did you start playing piano?

This is a piece for piano I wrote for a friend of mine, Opus. 2 No. 1: http://soundcloud.com/troy-peter-james- ... ection-one
I'm wanting to put out an album of piano compositions. All the piano music I've written is based on visual patterns.

This is me playing guitar:

you have much talent "awes".

i have a mediocre ability to create music.
this is a chordal structure i thought of in the car when i managed to circumvent the traffic by going through backstreets, and beating another car (who i was previously almost racing on clear roads) to get in front of him (who was very intent on getting a smart line through). it is a crude and unrefined expression of only the notes of a small slice of my mind that day. i should not even post it because if i spent a week on it i could make it sound professional, but here is a first (ham fisted) playing of that chordal structure i imagined.

practice makes perfect, and this was not practiced.

I started playing the piano in september. but those are by far not the most challenging pieces I can play. only the newest ones I've written.

I don't really understand the meaning of your piano piece, at least not if I consider it by my intuitive musical understanding. If I let it affect myself as I do with other expressionistic artworks it makes sense. but noone could play this piano piece with a piano, it's a midi file, right? or is it played with more than only one piano? if not... wow...
Do you consider your music style expressionism or free jazz? or something that's totally different at all? the video of your band and the tracks of your cd remind me very much of a free jazz concert I was listening to. of course different instrumentation but the same kind of beat superimpositions and harmonic sound created by many melody lines at once. it appears to be very challenging for the musician and needs much of practise so... well done!

thank you!

your song sounds very lovely, I think I got the message and understood what's in your head. to me it makes the appearance that it should be played with only 70% of the actual speed. And the chords on the piano should be broken up to not let it sound too impulsive. do you know what I mean? the impulsive hammering creates too much pressure. the melody line (the organ or what it is) shouldn't be played staccato but legato I think, but that's probably just cause you didn't practise this piece very much as you said. it will become very good :D

can you construct an analogy of what i played in a way that would be acceptable to wider audiences? i would like to hear how it should be played.

i can only iterate the fundamental ideas i have.

you can iterate much better than i can because i guess you are attuned to reality more than me.

my contribution is a crude idea, and maybe you can polish it and do it justice, or maybe you find it beneath your own abilities to try.

nighty night.

just show me first because i wrote it and i performed it, and i will give it to you if you can perform it better than me(which should be easy for you to do).

the fact will however remain that i composed the music no matter how well you can express it.

It will still be yours, if you like it I give it to you and you can do with it whatever you want. I would never dare to steal anotherones art! I'm only supporting you! :)

i can make a million more songs like this.

just polish it up and show me and it is yours.

i have many more compositions which i can sleep in which no one will ever know.

just do your best with this strip of music, and it is a gift to you. you can say you wrote it if you like (although you would be lying), but i will never tell.

maybe you can write the rest of the tune (i already know how it goes).

you are a musician and i am robotic, and maybe i can feed you some ideas. i play piano like a "pianola" i have been told.

i have to go to my docking station now because i am out of power.

(in other words "i have to go to bed")

My friend that I wrote Opus. 2 No. 1 for is working on playing it and estimates that it will take him about 16 months to nail (he's quite talented on piano!). That recording is a midi. I can email you the score if you want to see it :)
In regards to 'the meaning', with piano I tend to write music by finding beauty within chaos, patterns or randomness.
Also, I cant read music. So writing is quite a difficult task for me sometimes.
The video, I'd just call it improv.

Well done, pandabear! I am envious of yer classical guitar skillz.

My favorite guitar to play on right now is my MIM Telecaster. From time to time I'll learn a classical piece if I'm bored, since I don't teach guitar anymore or even play that much. I tried a nylon-string guitar once, and I just can't handle the neck width or the width between strings, not to mention the flat fingerboard. Watching this video and others that you have make me want to practice more. Good work!

That's cool. :thumleft: You remind me of my mother. She plays violin and guitar too. Thank you for sharing your music Pandabear.
