Don't you people listen to Tom Waits ????

I didn't know Tom Waits is supposed to sound sad. He has a sad voice but are the melodies he chooses really that sad? I thought all the stuff I posted was pretty sad sounding in terms of melody and instruments. I guess I just go more for instrumental sadness. The lyrics don't have to be sad for a song to sound sad to me.

Oh, quite so ! ! His gravelly voice makes his sad songs quite mournful. He has one, "A Soldier's Things" that is very sad indeed.

Hmm...

to me, his voice doesn't make his songs sad... just unlistenable.

I still think Skip James has a sadder voice. I think maybe I just find good falsetto voices really sad.

I like the soundtrack too but I haven't seen the film, except for the plastic bag bit.

It's good. Alan Ball makes fantastic stuff (Six Feet Under, True Blood).

The only ones I can think of are Yuri Chika - I Cry, Cascada - What hurts the most (sorta), Basshunter - Now you're gone and they're not at all that sad.

It's by Hayley Westenra and its called Prayer. The opening dialog and all of the video is composed of cutscenes from my favorite video game Advent Rising.

Chad Vangaalen - Willow Tree,

he's obsessed with death but the songs are strangely uplifting and beautiful.
