That's why Drake is the worst. His music is as bad as music can be without the badness being amusing. It's just boring and lazy-sounding.
You also have musicians that are just messing with people's heads a bit because it's something they seem to enjoy. For example one could run a Captain Beefheart and Salvador Dali comparison - both were highly competent at what they did, Dali was sincerely batisht crazy, Beefheart seemed to be just playing at being the old crazy UFO guy at the corner bar who wrote incoherently. To that end you can't always tell if what you're hearing is bad per say or just an artist who enjoys taking the piss out of people.
Drake can strike a mood once in a while, but for whatever reason I really love Ninja (Die Antwoord)'s 'Banana Pudding' exegesis on his character, and I sort of wish Ninja would have gotten his wish to bag him on a layup.
