Notice that I never said it was metal. It's post-rock (even though no other band in the same genre comes close to being as good IMO). It just happens to be something I like and I don't think it's totally unrelated. Nine Inch Nails isn't metal either. I don't really like stuff specifically labelled "noise rock" BTW. A lot of it is loud but not exactly heavy or particularly moving if you know what I mean.

I guess the problem is I'm picky about metal. I like the music but overpowering growling and shrieking vocals turn me off. I'd love it if people could post more semi-instrumental metal that I'd enjoy. I like stuff like this...

Yeah, I knew that was Post-Rock, I was just describing what that section with the feedback sounded like. It's not really like Noise Rock except for the feed back, but it reminds me more of Noise Rock than it does of metal. Anyway, no NIN is not metal, at least as a whole, but some of the songs are Industrial Metal, which in the very least is more metal than Post Rock (lol, like every thread discussing metal half the thread is discussing what is and what is not metal...)

Anyway, that songs Black Metal, I can't think of any good instrumental black metal at the moment, but the atmosphere reminded me a bit of Post Metal and since we were speaking about Post Rock I might as well bring some Post Metal up. Most Post Metal is either instrumental or has screamed vocals, so here are some with very clean vocals.

The latter one is very GY!BE inspired atmosphere and buildups, but solidly doom metal as well. If only I could find more tracks like this I would be happy. The only thing is I don't like the straight up metal tracks nearly as much as the atmospheric tracks. Pelican has some good tracks as well but they're also kind of hit and miss with me.

I like Deftones but I'd consider them alternative metal with some shoegaze influence. Jesu is very mellow doom/shoegaze metal, not really my thing. The tracks I just posted have a lot more exciting slow buildup, heavy drumming, and power that I like.
