Why is the saxophone considered cheesy nowadays?

Well a friend of mine says the harmonica can also say 'sultry femme fatale' as well, but can it?

Oh okay. I remember hearing the harmonica during a sex scene in a movie once. so that makes me wonder if it's supposed to be sexy then...

Oh okay. But I don't want mine to be too comedic, and I'm going for a diabolical so maybe baritone sax in the lower notes would be more sexy but diabolical?

Oh I meant if the saxophone could come off as sexy and diabolical if that makes sense.

if you listen to the pink panther theme where plas johnson played the tenor most famously, it can come off as sultry, sexy and even diabolical in places.

Oh okay, thanks, that's a good theme. It's just that that the tenor sax comes off as cheesy to me because of it's association with erotica and porn back in the day. So I thought that a bass sax or at least a really low baritone, could help avoid that cheese, if that makes sense? Unless I am looking at it the wrong way...

use the sax sparingly. save it for the maximum effect. use it as spice, not as main course.

Oh okay thanks, I will consider that. Since I was worried before about a sax sounding cheesy or too much like porn, one person suggested to me that since the bassoon sounds a lot like a baritone sax, to just use the bassoon, but does a bassoon give a femme fatale vibe though, even if it sounds like a sax?

a bassoon sounds nothing like a bari sax. bassoon is about as unsexy a sound as there is, other than an oboe, IMHO. you want sex, stick with brass and sax, perhaps alto flute.

Okay thanks. This is what I thought as well, and the bassoon just reminds me of old cartoons or something like that, rather than sounding femme fatale-ish. I don't know if I want sexy per se, but definitely a femme fatale vibe. But thanks. When you say stick with brass, what kind of brass though? It was said before for example that a trombone is not sexy, if that's true?

trombone in the right hands can be sexy esp. in combo with another instrument such as a trumpet or sax.
