really? race? a bad idea? thanks for letting me know, mom. its not unless you try to turn this into an argument. eminem tries to be a negative black stereotype. how can you say he doesnt? its pretty obvious. a lot of white people like him because he tries to live out their fantasy of being "thuggish". i havent talked to one black person who doesnt find his image offensive. you call that pretentious crap he writes meaningful? ew. the guy is a pop star nothing more. he is just making money off a popular image.

Have you not listened to the lyrics? He sings about his daughter and how he misses her alot. People like him because he is a good rapper. What I meant about race was that it is not for you to say what black people should think just because he is white, etc. You can have an opinion without bringing race into it. Opinions about music should have nothing to do with race. Just because you may be racist, it doesn't mean everybody is. I know plenty of Black people who like Eminem, so don't give me s**t about what "black people think". You have no idea. I didn't want to make this an argument, but I have a problem with people who bring race into something so irrelevantly. Fine, you can have your own opinion about him, but don't act like you know or care what others think.

dont accuse me of being a racist. im a minority, live in a predominantly minority neighborhood and i have black friends. they dont like eminem for the exact same reason i dont like him. so YES i do have a very good idea. im surprised more black people dont call him out on his image. thats what im saying. you didnt listen, instead you got on some soapbox. race is very relevant when it comes to that clown. boo hoo he misses his daughter. i bet he stops crying when the checks roll in
funny that you just accused me of being an ignorant judgemental person, which is what you just made yourself out to be, by calling me a racist. go listen to more of his garbage if it makes you happy.

You're a minority? Well, that could explain some of the bitterness. So, your Black friends account for more than my Black friends? Sure. Whatever. And, no. Race in this thread IS irrelevant because we were talking about the music. I never accused you of being an ignorant judgemental person. Go back and re-read it if you have to. And no, I never outright called you racist either.

i know what you insinuated with "just because you might be racist". dont try to say otherwise. and by insinuating i might be a racist you also insinuate i am an ignorant judgemental person. so there did i make myself clear enough? im not bitter at all about my heritage. why would you think being a minority would make me bitter? you think i should be? haha my genes turned me into quite the handsome devil. you dont own this thread dont tell me whats relevant and what isnt. "whatever" what a typical girly comeback. frankly i dont care about your black friends, or you. but dont talk sh*t to me in the safety of a forum. if you wanna talk trash, ill talk trash too. chances are, this will end with you whining to the moderators about something you started but couldnt finish, or else youll come back with a witty "whatever!" and leave it at that

That song that goes "girl shake that laffy taffy" over and over again has made me want to destroy many radios.

I don't get how music can get that bad.

This is not a complaint as such, but I was listening to ABC-Australia's Triple J network recently, and Vijay played some tune that started off like common-or-garden techno. Then I thought, "Hmm, that flute line sounds an awful lot like the flute riff from "Along Comes Mary" - which was a chart-topping hit for The Association, way back in 1966. Sure enough, whoever had recorded this tune had sampled huge chunks of "Along Comes Mary" and mashed it up with a different rhythm track.

I went looking on the Net to see whose work this was :) and do you think I could find it? No luck whatsoever. Yes, the Bloodhound Gang did cover "Along Comes Mary" on their Hooray for Boobies album, but that wasn't the same song, and besides the Bloodhound Gang are a bit gross. Not my cuppa tea at all.

Anyway, for any of you who are interested, here is an excellent vid of the original artists performing "Along Comes Mary" on the Smothers Brothers TV show. (Complete with comic introduction of the band.)

And now I'm wondering if there truly is anything new under the sun when it comes to pop music.

Well, you are assuming that I am insinuating certain things. Also taking into consideration the fact that you are a "handsome devil" is an opinion and is not at all intimidating. And, thank you. I happen to be a girl, so I appreciate the recognition. And if I'm not mistaken, your trash talking has already begun. But if you want to get personal, then fine. Bring it. I'd rather not get into an argument with such a person though. I'm sure if the moderators get into this, they won't fail to see your instigation. I don't think either of us really care what the other says, so maybe this should just stop now.

I never said Eminem was "deep" either. Stop putting words in my mouth. I don't want you to make yourself look stupid.

You haven't really given a good reason as to why you don't like him.

His lyrics aren't bad at all. He's one of the very few rappers I can tolerate.

Rap is only good for the lyrics.

my opinion of myself has been influenced by countless ladies and many a jealous man. im not trying to intimidate you with my high self esteem, but it would be understandable if it had that effect  . no i really care what you think, and i also want you to think "gee i really flew off the handle thinking this guy was trying to speak on behalf of black people everywhere". so just say you're sorry and everything will be ok. haha jk jk i dont care it can end here if you want it to. just remember im not a racist, im not bitter about my heritage, and i hate eminem. why? he writes pop music about his personal problems, he tries to be controversial but just comes across as somebody pining for media attention and airplay, and his terrible music gets stuck in my head. that makes him annoying.

Well, isn't that why lots of music is written? To get feelings out? You totally contradicted yourself in so many ways there, and if you can't figure out how, that is sad. Have a good life.

Oh man, he writes music about his problems! Don't most artists write music about similar stuff and how they feel? I don't understand how that influences your opinion at all.
